Mundelein Cert Classes Begin in October
The CERT program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

Mundelein CERT is offering a 20-hour training program on October 16 (6 - 10 PM), October 17 (8 AM - 4 PM) and October 18 (8 AM - 4 PM) at Mundelein Fire Station 1, 1000 N. Midlothian Road. Enrollment and materials are free of charge and open to individuals 18 years of age or older, or those 16 and 17 years old with a signed permission slip and waiver from their parents. Upon completion of the course, participants will be invited to join the Mundelein CERT team, although doing so is not a requirement. Apply online at www.cert.mundelein.org or by contacting the Fire Station (847-949-3260). Applications must be received by October 1, 2015.

Annual Garden Tasting
The Fremont Township Community Garden Annual Garden Tasting event is Sunday, September 13 from 3:00 pm til 7:00 pm. Get your taste buds ready!
This year they are combining the garden tasting and the harvest feast. This is an opportunity to taste the subtle or not so subtle differences between different varieties of veggies  growing in our community-- A garden tasting is the great opportunity to start planning for next year's garden!

Guests are encouraged to bring something to share. Examples: Bring along samples from known varieties (ie. black cherry tomatoes or lemon cucumbers) from your garden to share with others and enjoy samples from theirs. You can also bring along samples of canned, dried, and fermented produce, things you have brewed, or maybe you bake bread...maybe you play the guitar...
Bring your talents!

All VHM members and their families are welcome. The Harvest Feast is a great way to mingle with like minded individuals, meet and greet new and exciting community residents and share stories of the past year.

You are more than welcome to come even if you don't have anything to share! Come enjoy the Fremont Township Food Pantry Garden and meet other kindred spirits! Click here for their facebook page.
