Tyler Reddick (@TylerReddick) bounced back from early race struggles to grab a third place finish in the American Ethanol 200 Friday night at Iowa Speedway.  Reddick collected his sixth top five in eight races this season and remains second in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship standings, 12 points behind the leader.

 

Tyler started third and had maintained that position when he struggled to come up to speed following the first caution on lap 11.  He briefly dropped outside the top 20 but recovered and was moving through the field when he pitted under the second caution on lap 27 for four tires and adjustments and restarted 16th on lap 30.

 

Shortly after the race went green Reddick radioed his crew that he thought he had a loose wheel.  The third caution period gave the team an opportunity to pit on lap 43 to make sure the right side wheels were secure.  Reddick lined up fifth for the restart on lap 50.

 

Reddick was eighth when the fourth caution gave him the chance to pit for four tires and adjustments on lap 123 and was fifth when the green flag waved on lap 127. 

 

He was seventh when the fifth caution waved on lap 152.  Reddick pitted for four tires and adjustments one lap later and was sixth for the restart on lap 156.  He quickly picked off two spots on the restart and was fourth when the sixth and final caution on lap 159 set up the restart.

 

Reddick restarted fourth on lap 164 and was third one lap later.  As the race entered its closing laps, Reddick and Matt Crafton waged an entertaining battle for third.  Crafton nudged Reddick off Turn 2 with two laps to go and pulled alongside on the final lap but Reddick held him off, edging his rival to the finish line by one truck length.

Austin Theriault (@AustinTheriault) rallied from two laps down to score a respectable 12th place finish in the American Ethanol 200 Friday night at Iowa Speedway.  

 

Theriault has been running at the finish in all five NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races this season.  He has completed all but two laps this season (792 of a possible 794) a key factor in the learning process for a young driver.

 

Theriault qualified 18th and was running just outside the top 10 at the time of his first pit stop under caution on lap 27.  While most of the leaders chose to pit during the third caution period on lap 42, crew chief Chad Kendrick kept Theriault on the track in an effort to gain track position.  He lined up third when the race went green on lap 50.

 

By lap 52 Theriault had settled into sixth place and ran there during the following long green flag run.  Austin was sixth when he made a scheduled four tire stop under green on lap 118.  But just a few moments after completing his service, the fourth caution of the race came out on lap 122, pinning the No. 29 team two laps down.  Theriault took the wave around on lap 126 and restarted 15th one lap later.

 

From this point Austin's sour racing luck began to improve.

 

The fifth caution on lap 152 gave him the opportunity to wave around back to the tail end of the lead lap.  He was 13th in line when the race went green on lap 156. 

 

The sixth and final caution was also a fortunate turn of events for Theriault.  The final yellow waved on lap 159 and Kendrick called his driver to pit road one lap later for four tires and adjustments.  Austin restarted 12th on lap 164 when the race went green and did an admirable job down the stretch to hold off Ben Kennedy for the position.

Tyler Reddick - No. 19 Broken Bow Records Ford  F-150: " I've got to thank everyone at Broken Bow Records and Brad Keselowski Racing for a fast Ford F-150.  I knew the top had better momentum at the end of the race.  He (Crafton) made a dive and got inside me once or twice.  We raced really hard and raced really clean.  I was just glad to be able to clear him off of Turn 4 and finish in front of him.  It's early in the season but every position is important."  

Doug Randolph - Crew Chief, No. 19 Broken Bow Records Ford F-150:  " Tyler did a great job in the Broken Bow Records Ford F-150.  We lost a lot of track position early in the race but we were able to recover.  Tyler kept his focus through the adversity early in the race and it paid off with a good finish." 

Austin Theriault - No. 29 Cooper Standard Ford F-150: "You just can't predict and plan for certain circumstances.  If we would have waited a couple of laps before we pitted under green we would have been fine but it's part of racing where sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't, especially on green flag pit stops.  Luckily we were able to recover and finish on the lead lap.  Everyone on the Cooper Standard team did a great job."    

  
Chad Kendrick - Crew Chief, No. 29 Cooper Standard Ford   F-150:  " We got bit by a yellow flag after we made a pit stop under green.  After that you're playing defense just trying to get back on the lead lap.  Austin did a great job in the Cooper Standard Ford F-150.  He improved on everything from last week."

Reddick did an interview June 15 with Des Moines Register reporter Chad Leistikow.

 

Tyler participated in an event June 18 at the Baker Boys Club at Amos Hiatt Middle School in Des Moines.  Local media outlets in attendance were local television stations WOI-DT channel 5 (ABC) and WHO-DT channel 13 (NBC) plus the Newton Daily News.
