Help Oklahoma PTA speak out in support of Family Engagement!
Oklahoma PTA is asking you to once again join your voice with ours to bring change to positively impact the lives of children across our state.

We are asking Senator James Inhofe and Senator James Lankford to sign-on as a co-sponsor of the family engagement amendment (Bennet - CO) to the Every Child Achieves Act.

This amendment would authorize Statewide Family Engagement Centers as a replacement for the existing Parental Information Resource Centers. This revised program is intended to help strengthen family engagement through assistance to states, school districts, teachers, and families.

We know from 40 years of research that family engagement in a child's education increases student achievement, improves attendance, and reduces dropout rates. This is amendment is important to Oklahoma's children and families.

Please take a moment to follow one (or both) of the links below and ask the senators to sign-on as co-sponsors of the Bennet Amendment to ECAA.

Subject: EDUCATION

Talking Points (share 1):
  • The Bennet amendment improves upon the existing PIRC program by insisting on a more evidence based approach to parental engagement. Centers under the SFEC authority would be required to expend funds to expand or establish technical assistance for evidence based approaches to parental engagement.
  • The Bennet amendment would authorize Statewide Family Engagement Centers to help strengthen family engagement through assistance to states, school districts, teachers, and families.
  • The Statewide Family Engagement Centers, authorized through the Bennet amendment, will provide states and school districts with the capacity to support effective implementation and enhancement of systemic and effective family engagement policies, programs, and activities that lead to improvements in student development and academic achievement.

Please include a personal account of how FAMILY ENGAGEMENT has made a difference at your school.

Thank you for joining Oklahoma PTA in this important work!

Sincerely,

Jeffery Corbett
