Save Connecticut Library Funding!
The Governor is proposing a 30% cut in the State Library's general fund operating budget in the 2015 state budget. The funding cuts negatively impact the budgets of all Connecticut public libraries, including the Public Library of New London. The proposed cuts would eliminate funding for the following programs:
Connecticard
Currently CT residents are able to use their public library card at any other public library in the state. In other words there is universal lending between public libraries in CT. If this budget is passed, CT residents would no longer be able to borrow from any public library across the state other than their home library.
CEN
(Connecticut Education Network)
This state supported network provides internet service to the computers used by the public. If this service is cut, it would be very costly for public libraries to provide internet to their patrons, and some would not be able to do so at all.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
EMAIL your state legislators! Find their email addresses at :
cuts to the Connecticut State Library budget which would curtail many local library services.
Thank you!
