Peer Group Feature
Paula Land, Executive Director at Catherine McAuley Center

What peer group/s do you attend? Executive Directors of Small Nonprofits

Why do you attend peer group? I attend the peer groups to stay connected to other Executive Directors in the area. I enjoy exploring topics of interest and supporting each in dealing with questions and challenges that arise.

How is the peer group valuable to you? Over the years, I have been able to reach out to my peers and ask questions and get input or feedback outside of the meetings. It is nice to know that I can pick up the phone and make the call, and we are all here to support each other.

If someone was interested in peer group, what would you say to encourage them to attend? Not only do you get to meet some really great professionals from the area and learn about what other agencies are doing, but you have comfort in knowing that other nonprofits are dealing with many of the same issues and that there is a support system in place. Each month there is a lot of learning and sharing happening. It is also great to go to other events in the community and be able to know so many folks!

Email Carrie Walker for more information about joining a peer group.

Library Resources

The Cedar Rapids Public Library has numerous resources for local nonprofits.

The Library provides valuable access to Guidestar's Nonprofit Compensation Report at its downtown location. The report remains the only large-scale nonprofit compensation analysis based entirely on IRS data. This authoritative report gives nonprofits the information they need to establish appropriate compensation and demonstrate to grantmakers, oversight agencies, and individual donors that the salaries and benefits they offer are justified.

Contact Carrie Walker at the Nonprofit Network for more information on how to get connected to library resources.
