You might think that it's not possible to present a concert of nuanced music with 350 singers on stage. You might expect a "big band sound" but not one filled with sensitive singing.

This season, HaZamir singers proved, once again, that their artistry extends beyond "just lots of voices." Their lyrical performance of  Uri Tsafon and Mi Haish complemented their performance of Mishaela and the premiere of Gerald Cohen's L'Dor Vador

Imagine the hush of 350 singers singing pianissimo (very quietly) in Avery Fisher Hall and then hearing that sound grow, until it reached its richest peak of fullness.

Sometimes it's hard to remember that HaZamir is comprised of teenagers.  HaZamir teens tend to be unusually thoughtful, compassionate and generous. It is with great pride that we offer this snapshot of the 2014-2015 HaZamir season. While there is still more to come in the next few months, our season has been full and rich. We invite you to take a peek at some of the highlights of the past months.

Then stay tuned for what's coming next...

HaZamir Intervisitation & Chamber Choir Retreat

On Sunday and Monday of Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend, 200 HaZamir singers gathered at the Pearlstone Retreat Center in Baltimore for the 2015 HaZamir Intervisitation & Chamber Choir Retreat for a spectacular two-day intensive rehearsal leading up to Festival.  Special guest,  Cantor Gerald Cohen, addressed the HaZamir singers about his new composition,  L'dor Vador , which was premiered in Lincoln Center on Sunday, March 22.

Many thanks to Erika Schon, conductor of HaZamir Baltimore and Michelle Feller-Kopman, coordinator of HaZamir Baltimore for working tirelessly to host this event and provide safe travel for us during this very wintery season!

That's a wrap! See y'all at Festival!

HaZamir Teen Leader Shabbaton

Twenty-five HaZamir Teen Leaders (we missed our 3 Teen Leaders from our HaZamir Israel chapters) gathered for a Shabbaton of learning, reflection, bonding and planning prior to the 2015 HaZamir Intervisitation & Chamber Choir Retreat. We shared a wonderful weekend preparing for Intervis including Teen Leader led Shabbat services and programs, discussions on identity and leadership and plenty of singing!

HaZamir Joint Rehearsals
HaZamir Festival

Three-hundred and fifty HaZamir singers participated in this year's HaZamir Festival as they prepared for the Gala Concert at Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center. HaZamirniks reconnected with old friends from across the U.S. and Israel and many new friendships were forged. What a wonderful weekend filled with rehearsals, learning, friendship and song!

HaZamir Gala Concert

The lively HaZamir Gala Concert included a rousing premiere of  Gerald Cohen's  L'Dor Vador . This new work was commissioned by the Cantors Assembly in honor of Matthew Lazar and HaZamir. HaZamir's own  Three Tenors rocked Avery Fisher Hall with their scat singing in Moishe Oysher's  Chad Gadyo . Is it any wonder that the applause was deafening and the audience was on its feet?

HaZamir honored  Dr. Ruth K. Westheimer with the Zamir Choral Foundation's

Kinor David Award at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center at the HaZamir Gala Concert on March 22. Last year's honorees, Elena and Jay Lefkowitz presented Dr. Ruth with the beautiful Kinor David created by celebrated artist, Mark Podwal.
