May 2015                     Vol. #157

I apologize for the newsletter being late this month but it has been a really busy week. The chamber had a booth at the Kansas Sampler Festival in Wamego this last weekend. We presented the Ellsworth County Area to over 12,000 people. Saturday we set a new record for a one day total of over 7,000 people in one year. We then continued to set a new total record with 12,054 people paying to be at the festival. That doesn't include all the volunteers and the 293 exhibitors. Next year will be in Winfield. Plan to help us tell the world about Ellsworth County!

We are here for our members but we are also here for the community. If you receive this newsletter and think that you know someone that would like it, please forward the newsletter to them. We also would like you to take a moment and look at our website www.goellsworth.com to help us make it what the community needs by reviewing pages and suggesting new content..

The chamber is here to help you and your business grow. If you have information about your business you would like to share or a new exciting promotion, feel free to call Carol at 472-4071 or email with the information. We will get it in the newsletter or create a special mailing for you. This is all free and a part of your membership.
We are here for YOU!!

Chamber Hours
Tuesday  - Friday

10 am to 5 pm

Closed for lunch 1 pm to 2 pm

Monday's by appointment only
Welcome Bags Needs YOU!!!
Welcome bags show new residents what there is for them in our town. Please consider putting something about your business in the bag. It does not need to cost a lot, put in a menu from your restaurant, put an invitation to visit your store, or just list what you have to offer on a flyer. All these things help people to find you when they move to town.

We have 30 Economic Developers from different Kansas towns coming to Ellsworth at the end of the month and we want to give them Welcome Bags to show them what a great town we have. Please bring things you want them to know about your business.

Public Restrooms
The VFW would like to donate the land where their building burnt down to the City/Chamber for public restrooms. The Chamber would like to help this become a reality but it is a big undertaking. The City has agreed to take ownership if the Chamber can come up with a plan to raise the funds and get it built. This is where you come in! We need to create a committee that will come up with a plan to present to the City Council in August. If you would like to be part of this please call me at 785-472-4071 or email.

Chamber Member News
Thank You  Georgina Bates, Greg and Cee Heller and Tami McGreevy
They made it possible for John and I to go to Wamego for the Kansas Sampler Festival to promote Ellsworth County. Georgina covered the office on Friday, May 1 so we could set up. Greg and Cee Heller came on Saturday to cover the booth so that John and I could go eat lunch and look around. Tami came on Sunday to help us so we could have some time off. Without them, we would of been at the booth the whole time.

Congratulations Trisha Janssen

The chamber is so pleased and proud to announce that Trisha Janssen has applied for and been selected to enter the KARL program. The KARL program is a very competitive agricultural and comprehensive leadership program, and Trisha went through an intensive process to be selected for the program.  I am excited to hear about her experiences and how she can bring these skills to our community.  Please take a moment to congratulate her, as this will be beneficial for the growth of our board as well as our community.  Congratulations, Trish!  Well done!

Kansas Bucket List

The Kansas Bucket List
Kansas Tourism is excited to announce our Spring campaign, The Kansas Bucket List - a multi-media campaign comprised of user-generated content. During the first part of the campaign, we will be collecting submissions to be included in the Kansas Bucket List. An independent panel will narrow the list down to 70 experiences which will be announced in the Winter 2015 issue of KANSAS! Magazine (which will be celebrating it's 70th anniversary). People will be able to submit their entries for the Bucket List via a form that will be included in the Summer issue of the magazine, via web form on TravelKS.com and via Social Media by using the hashtag, #KSBucketList. A Kansas Bucket List webpage will showcase images using the hashtag and submitted via Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.

Notable Kansans
Kansas Tourism and partners have identified a broad and deep list of potential notable Kansans who we would like to do a brief (3-5 second) self-recorded (webcam, iPhone, etc) video announcing one or two essential Kansas experiences. For example, Bill Snyder might say, "Eighteen holes at the beautiful Colbert Hills Golf Course in Manhattan!" We will create a mash-up of these videos for the media kickoff event. The video will also be nested on the Bucket List webpage and will be shared via social media the week of the kickoff.
We could use your help with this! If you know any notable Kansans, could you ask them to record and share a video? Videos should be emailed to cmorgan@jhpadv.com no later than Friday, April 17.
