Salem's First Earth Day Event:
Earth 411!

April 11, 2015 at Salem Riverfront Park in Salem, OR.

Pringles Creek Community's Sustainable Living Center is partnering with the City of Salem, Straub Environmental Center, and Friends of the Trees for Salem's first Earth Day event (in at least 18 years).

Earth 411 is a family-friendly, zero waste, educational event. The term 411 means information and that is the theme of the event, "Information and Solutions for a Better Tomorrow." 60 venders will be present to provide information, demonstrations, and/ or  activities that help residents learn about and experience our natural environment and learn how to build community resilience. In addition to educational booths, there will be activities, food, and entertainment.

Pringle Creek Community and our Sustainable Living Center will be there offering free plant starts and information about Pringle Creek Community's eco-friendly infrastructure.

All the way from Salt Lake City, Utah, the Jenkstars and Solar Saucer Cosmonauts will be bringing their The Solar Saucer and Solar Stage for all of our guest performers. The American Red Cross will also be present, running a blood drive. There will be boat rides, an earth themed costume contest, as well as a parade around the park for all to take part in, with costumes and all.

The event's suggested admission is either $3.00 or  3 cans of food for donation to Marion-Polk Food Share at the gate. No one will be turned away!  Please feel free to invite your friends to this event so everyone in the community can be there. We look forward to seeing you!

Painters Hall
3911 Village Center Dr SE, Salem

Painters Hall Cafe is closed
(The community and event center remain open)

The Pringle Creek Team is reorganizing and refreshing our commitment to our sustainable model.

That sustainable model calls for us to ensure the best utilization of all resources.  With that in mind, the team decided to close the Cafe at the end of business on  Tuesday, March 31.  This is a tough call.  We've all enjoyed the benefits of the cafe and fabulous meals, but after four years we've not been able to edge near a sustainable economic footing for the cafe.  Resources currently going to support the cafe will be reallocated to building and community investments.

Painters Hall will remain open for full utilization as the community center, event and office space, and we'll have coffee, tea and a plate of baked goods available for residents and guests to enjoy while at Pringle Creek Community.

Weekly Community Yoga Classes

Come on over and stretch out any and all tension in your body with Alyson and her students.  Alyson is a talented teacher ready to offer stretches and positions to remedy all kinds of kinks and tweaks that you may have.

Join us Thursdays at 5:00 pm at Painters Hall for a yoga class with experienced yoga and dance instructor Alyson Budde.

Classes are designed for people of all ages and skill levels. Bring your own mat and any additional equipment (blocks, straps, bands & pillows) you may need. Come stretch, strengthen, improve your balance, and enjoy the community spirit!
$5 per person

Gardening in April

April showers...

Now is the time to get all of your plant starts started.  Time spent now getting seeds in the soil (indoors) now will literally pay off later this growing season!

Outdoors, turn your beds and work in compost and nutrients to get prepared for planting in May.  If you have cold frames and haven't already planted, you can put in lettuces, spinach, and lots of peas - so good!

Movie Night

Pringle Creek Community residents are starting a new tradition -  a movie night event held at Painters Hall, our community center!

To kick it off, we're going to watch The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.  Film suggestions are decided by neighbors and every third month the film will be child-friendly.

It'll be a great way to spend time together, enriching neighborly connections and enjoying a fun, interesting film.

For information email or call:  [email protected] or 503-315-1055
The chicks and ducks have grown

They're so big already!

They're out in the yard during the day to greet visitors.  The ducks, Graham, Ash, and Marble, are giving us eggs daily.  It'll be a while before we get any from the
 little Lay-dees.

Eileen and Wednesday, chicks that Kerry took home to allow Eileen's injured leg to heal, will be back the first week of April to get re-introduced to the flock.  They'll definitely be at the bottom of the pecking order, poor things!  It'll be interesting to watch them all re-adjust.

Interesting Titles in our Little Free Library

Our Free Little Library is a hit!

We've seen an interesting rotation of titles since we put it in place last month.  Right now there are a few children's books, Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass, Memoirs of a Geisha, and many others.

Take a book or leave a book for others to read.  Simple!
