The St. Petersburg Pier Process

A pier has been the centerpiece of St. Petersburg's downtown waterfront since the 1800s.

In the latest installment of our White Board series, Public Works Administrator Mike Connors discusses a little history and the city process moving forward to redesign, replace or renovate the St. Petersburg Pier.

Tampa Bay Times: Bill Edwards' deal with St. Petersburg would give him control of Al Lang Stadium

My FOX Tampa Bay: Al Lang Stadium's baseball days may be done

Since the 1920's baseball has been played in a waterfront stadium in downtown St. Petersburg. Those days may be over with city council approval of a deal brokered by Mayor Rick Kriseman. "That was a hard decision for me," Kriseman told FOX 13 News Thursday afternoon. "For me to allow this to get to that point where I knew it wasn't going to be used for baseball."

Tampa Bay Times Editorial: Give more juveniles a break in St. Petersburg

In St. Petersburg a first-time juvenile offender who commits a nonviolent misdemeanor and admits to it can be given a civil citation and the tools to change through a program called the Juvenile Arrest Avoidance Program. But a recent survey showed that some police officers didn't know the program existed, and some who did were taking youngsters to the county Juvenile Assessment Center anyway rather than home to their parents. Last week the St. Petersburg City Council approved recommendations to plug those and other gaps in administration of JAAP, which may help keep more juvenile first offenders out of the criminal justice system.
