St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman announces plans for the City to purchase the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American History Museum
On Tuesday, March 10, Mayor Rick Kriseman and Deputy Mayor Kanika Tomalin stood with members of St. Petersburg City Council, and representatives from the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American History Museum as well as the St. Petersburg Housing Authority to announce the intent of the city to purchase the museum.
Said Dr. Tomalin: "Today is about more than a beloved building that sits under this canopy of oaks in the heart of our city. It's about each of the places, and most importantly the people, it honors and serves. It's about the history of this corridor."

Please join us at the Inaugural Fast Friday Community Block Party Friday, March 27 starting at 5:30 p.m. In celebration of the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg race weekend, we invite the community to come have some fun on Central Avenue between 2nd and 3rd Streets (same location as the monthly Get Downtown/First Friday block parties). The event is free and open to the public. The community can expect lots of race-themed fun and games - including family-friendly activities such as face painting, bean bag toss, trivia and an IndyCar show car photo opportunity. The Fast Friday Community Block Party is the official after party and awards ceremony location of the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg 5K happening earlier that evening.

St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman has announced plans for the city to begin the process to purchase the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum.
Kriseman made the announcement Tuesday morning at the museum, located at 2240 Ninth Avenue South. He said it's simply the right thing to do.

Eckerd College students who in January recovered the body of a 5-year-old girl tossed from a Sunshine Skyway approach bridge were honored Thursday by St. Petersburg's mayor and police chief.
