ALIGNMENT ROCKFORD NEWS
SEPTEMBER 2015
WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL

Pictured top-right, Academy teachers from Auburn and Jefferson High Schools attended a summer boot camp session where faculty learned from other teachers who had successfully utilized Academy Support Team members in their curriculum to bring real-world application into the classroom. Here Nicole Frazer, a teacher at Jefferson High School shared her experiences working with community members in a Shark Tank project she incorporated into her Economics class. Community members sat on a panel and evaluated the students' business proposals.

Pictured top-left is a panel of community members who serve as Academy Support Team members who provided insight on their level of involvement within the schools.

Pictured on the bottom is a group of East High School HPS (Human and Public Services) Academy teachers who participated in a site visit with the Rockford Fire Department to see how they can incorporate real world experiences into their curriculum for the 2015-2016 school year. Click here

I was not going to be the one that quit and watched it fail. I wanted to be a part of the solution...The community members are the key to making the Academies a sustainable way to teach our students. This has been one of the most rewarding projects that I have ever been involved with. We are making positive changes in the school system, which means we are making positive changes in the lives of our students. -Chad Moe
