November 14, 15 & 16: Ribfest -- This three day charity fundraiser helps a variety of youth oriented causes. Ribfest features the best BBQ ribbers in the world, national touring bands playing classic & southern rock & country hits. On Saturday and Sunday, fun activities for kids - in the Family Fun Zone Hosted by Great Explorations Children's Museum.

Friday, November 14: NBC Universal Television will be filming at Vinoy Park for the "Wish Booth," a segement of the Meredith Vieira Show. This is being done in partnership with the "RibFest," and is sponsored by the show's Tampa affiliate, WFTS.

St. Petersburg Tribune: St. Pete hires administrator to guide economic development

 

In another effort to boost the city's economy, Mayor Rick Kriseman has hired a new city development administrator.

 

Alan DeLisle, who led economic development efforts in Buffalo, New York, and Durham, North Carolina, and most recently downtown Louisville, Kentucky, will join the city in January. The 54-year-old will replace longtime administrator Rick Mussett, who retired this year.  [Read full article]

Tampa Bay Business Journal: Why you should pay attention to St. Pete's perfect Equality Index score

 

Diversity is key to developing a live-work-play environment that is vital for businesses and the workforce they are seeking.

 

That's why the perfect 100 score that St. Petersburg got on the Human Rights Campaign's Municipal Equality Index is being celebrated widely at City Hall and the St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce. Creative Loafing: St. Pete gets a perfect score in HRC's LGBT

 

Last year, when Tampa scored higher than St. Petersburg in the Human Rights Campaign's annual measure of LGBT equality across the nation, St. Pete was more than a little peeved. City officials vowed that things would be different by the time the next MEI rolled around.


And boy, are they. Today, HRC announced that St. Pete's score in the Municipality Equality Index was, in essence, perfect - winning the top rating of 100 points, up from 66 in 2013, and outpacing Tampa, which came in close behind at 97.  [Read full article]

Orlando Sentinel: Picasso exhibit at Dali's place is a must-see

 

I don't need additional incentive to visit The Dali Museum in St. Petersburg, one of the must-see art attractions in Florida.


So it's not surprising that I made the opening weekend of the new "Picasso/Dali, Dali/Picasso" exhibit, a display of more than 80 works by cubist master Pablo Picasso showcased alongside like-minded creations by surrealist Salvador Dali.  [Read full article]
