Consent Agenda

All items on the Consent Agenda are considered to be routine by the Board of Trustees and will be enacted with one motion. There will be no separate discussion of the items unless a Board member so requests, in which event the item will be removed from the Consent Agenda and considered as an item on the Regular Agenda. 2014-2015 General Fund Budget Amendment to move funds to accommodate campus requests for supplies, computer equipment, furniture and fixtures.

Purchase of property/casualty coverage from The Hartford through Miller & Miller Insurance Agency for $135,256. The policy period will run May 1, 2015, to May 1, 2016. Insurance expense is included in the General Operating Fund Budget.

Investment Report for the Third Quarter 2014-2015.

Purchase of three (3) Regular buses, one (1) Special Education bus, one (1) suburban and one (1) van through the Texas Association of School Boards Buy Board. The buses will be purchased from Longhorn Bus sales for a proposed cost of $354,900 plus the $800 Buy Board fee. The suburban will be purchased from Caldwell Country Auto at a cost of $34,960.00 plus the $400 Buy Board Fee. The van will be purchased from Silsbee Ford at a cost of $27,245.75 including the $400 Buy Board Fee. Funding for these expenditures will be included in the 2014-2015 budget.

Addition of ten (10) instructional full-time employees (FTEs) for the 2015-2016 school year. This will allow NBISD to recruit early. The positions to be filled include Bilingual Education, Chemistry, Spanish and Special Education.

Base proposal submitted by American Electric Corporation for electrical upgrades at the NBISD High School Stadium for the new video scoreboard. The total cost of this contract is $45,949.00. This includes a $1,000.00 Owner's Contingency Allowance.

Shelter agreement with the San Antonio Area Chapter of the American National Red Cross to use NBISD schools as disaster relief shelters during emergencies. This will include the use of NBHS Ninth Grade Center and Oak Run Middle School as out-of-county shelters. New Braunfels High School and Klein Road Elementary will be used for in-county shelters. The New Braunfels Branch (Comal County) of the American Red Cross is the point-to-point destination for evacuees from Jackson, Matagorda, Calhoun and Aransas counties.

Additional Security fencing at Seele between the gym to the main campus buildings. The estimate for the project includes 114 LF of 7' tall wrought iron security fencing, concrete slab work, doors with hardware and a $1,000 contingency for a total estimated cost of $17,637.00. The project will be funded from Unallocated 2010 Bond Funds.

Stantec Architecture Inc. to provide district bond planning and architectural services. The proposed agreement offers four (4) compensation rates. Options include: prototype (not significantly altered), prototype (significantly altered), new construction and renovations.

Revised NBISD 2015-2016 school calendar that shows the five (5) waived staff development days as part of the school calendar. The days being requested for waiver must be denoted as Teacher Professional Development Day/Student Holiday on the calendar in order to be considered for approval.  Once the waiver is approved, those five (5) days will be workdays that teachers can opt into complete their professional development hours or take online at a later date or time.

Textbook and instructional materials adoption selected in mathematics (Algebra I, II and Geometry), social studies (K-8) and fine arts (K-5). Additionally, the board approved the Instructional Materials Allotment and TEKS 100% Coverage Certification, 2015-2016.

Superintendent Randy Moczygemba and Executive Director of Finance Steve Brown to begin the process of negotiating with the New Braunfels Area Community Foundation for the transfer of administrative oversight and investment responsibilities of nearly two-dozen student scholarships currently handle by NBISD.

  • Executive Director of Finance and Operations Steve Brown reviewed a first draft of the budget information for the 2015-2016 school year
  • Executive Director of Finance and Operations Steve Brown presented a written report on the In-state Overnight and Out-of-State Student trips
  • Executive Director of Technology Matt Jones presented the monthly TEC21 Report to the Board. This month's presentation included the five-year estimated cost savings associated with the district's TEC21 1:1 initiative. The total five-year refresh and alternative hardware savings was reported as $2,986,133.17. This is due to the need for less student computers, laptops, carts, software and hardware.

  • Extension of Pest Control Services Contract with Orkin Commercial Services for the contract period of May 21, 2015 through May 20, 2016.
