Last week, the White House released the Third U.S. National Climate Assessment. This report is "the most authoritative and comprehensive source of scientific information to date about climate-change impacts across all U.S. regions and on critical sectors of the economy."

The report confirms what we all know: that climate change is not a threat to be addressed by future generations. It is a challenge we must face right now, today.

Mayor Kriseman and his Administration takes climate change seriously. It is why he named a Director of Sustainability and Green Initiatives, is moving ahead with curbside recycling, and will continue to be a strong advocate for a healthier planet.

In this video, Dr. John Holdren, President Obama's Science Advisor, introduces the National Climate Assessment and discusses President Obama's climate action plan which takes an all of the above energy approach towards combating climate change now. St. Petersburg needs a new police headquarters, but the problem is paying for it.

Mayor Rick Kriseman is asking Pinellas County commissioners for about $20 million.

"I've come to the decision I want to do it in one phase," Kriseman said. "It makes a lot more sense financially."

Tampa Bay Times: St. Petersburg deficit shrinking: now projected at $1.5 million this year

The city's latest projections show an expected deficit in this year's budget is shrinking.

In February, officials predicted the city would end its fiscal year in September with a $2.3 million shortfall. That number is now about $1.5 million, according to a memo Budget Director Tom Greene recently submitted to City Council.

Tampa Bay Times Editorial: Urgent call to action on climate

A new federal report released this week underscores two key points on climate change. First, the impact is being felt now, and the responsibility to act cannot be sloughed off to future generations. Second, rising temperatures have real implications for everything from where and how we live to global security and the safety of the food and water supply. The report should especially motivate coastal states such as Florida to get serious about slowing man-made contributions to the crisis.
