Trip report for O'Melveny Park Bird Walk
on Sunday, November 23, 2014.

Number of participants: 37 + 2 leaders
Start time 8:05am
Finish time 10:05am
Distance covered: 1.0 mile
Weather:  sunny and breezy with gusts up to 15 mph

Breezy and gusty conditions made birding a bit of a challenging, but we were still able to find some good birds.  Highlight of the day was watching a Red-breasted Sapsucker excavating a weep hole - at eye level and only 5' away!  The bird seemed to care less about our presents, allowing close study of its plumage - down to the individual white feather behind its eye. Other highlights were the large flock of White-throated Swifts hunting above Bee Canyon and an aerial dogfight between a Common Raven and Cooper's Hawk, with the Cooper's Hawk seemingly having the upper-hand.
