Red Wings Alumni Game Raises $30,000 for Mike Modano Ice Arena Improvements

Westland, MI -- For the 6th year in a row, the Mike Modano Ice Arena was sold out to capacity for its annual "Hockey Night in Westland."  More than 1000 spectators filled the bleachers and it was standing room only as fans watched Mayor Wild's team, the Wild Wings, take on the Red Wings Alumni team.  The game ended with a score of 11-4, with the Red Wings Alumni ahead.

"Even though the Wild Wings did not take home a victory this year, the event is considered a great success.  This game is not only a great opportunity to bring the community together, but it also raises much needed funds for improvements to the Mike Modano Ice Arena," commented Mayor Wild.  "Every year the event gets bigger, draws more of a crowd and raises more money.  Before this year's game, Hockey Night in Westland has raised over $100,000 for our ice arena," he continued.

After expenses, this year's game will raise nearly $30,000 which includes a $10,000 contribution by former Red Wing, Westland resident, Mike Modano. Funds raised previously have helped fund the arena with energy efficient compressors and lighting as well as a remodeled Breakaway CafĂ©, free WiFi, new heating units for the spectator area and new rubber matting on the player's benches.

"We are honored to host the Red Wings Alumni every year and appreciate the support of our players, generous sponsors, prize donors and fans.  Without all of you, this game would not be possible" Wild concluded.
