Charlie Enright Makes a "Stopover" at HMM

Alvimedica skipper and Bristol resident Charlie Enright and his navigator Will Oxley gave a riveting presentation to over 350 enthusiastic fans under the tent on Monday, May 11. They told some great stories from their trip around the planet, and they showed us some fantastic video from the boat. If you missed it this time, don't worry - Charlie says the push is on to do it again, so mark your calendars for May 2018.

The Men of Herreshoff - The Watchmen

The Herreshoff Manufacturing Company (HMCo) employed watchmen at night and on Sundays for fire safety and security. And proving that secrecy and subterfuge are not new to the America's Cup, HMCo placed a sentry at the entrance to the shop where Cup yachts were built and "Woe be to the prying newspaper reporters and others who attempt to get into the shops without a pass". Usually their work went unnoticed, but when something did happen, it often found its way into the pages of The Bristol Phoenix.

Another picture shows the angle irons to hold eye-spliced loops of the forestay, upper main shrouds, preventers, and throat halyard. We've started to grind, file, and persuade these into shape.
