DAAD Germany Today Tour 2014

"Applied Science in Germany � Institutions of Higher Education, Research Institutes, and their Internationalization Strategies"

DAAD invites representatives from universities, research institutions, and funding agencies in the United States and Canada, and colleagues from the education policy field and politics to join the �Germany Today� Information Tour 2014.The program will be interactive: Program hosts will provide valuable insights into their activities, and you will be asked to share your perspective and expertise with them.

The tour is scheduled to take place June 16 through June 21, 2014 (Bonn/Cologne, Trier, Munich).

Topics of focus will include:

    Introduction to Germany�s (applied) research landscape
    Details about certain areas of applied research and funding mechanisms
    Details about the consortium of seven major, research-intensive universities of applied science (UAS 7)
    Institutional internationalization strategies
    Details about select BA and MA programs at recognized universities of applied science
    Accreditation of courses taken abroad in BA/MA programs
    PhD programs/training, especially in relation to applied science, and transatlantic mobility

The program will be in English. Program-related costs in Germany (accommodation, domestic travel, most meals) will be covered by DAAD. The program officially starts in Bonn on Monday morning, June 16, 2014 (optional: informal dinner on the previous night, Sunday, June 15) and ends with a dinner on Friday evening, June 20, in Munich. The night from Friday, June 20, through Saturday, June 21, is still booked and covered by DAAD in our hotel in Munich (including breakfast).

Intercontinental travel is at the participant�s expense. Applicants must have U.S./Canadian citizenship or permanent residency, a special interest in Germany and transatlantic co-operation, and a relevant professional position. Applicants should not have recently participated in another information trip to Germany.

March 7th is the Application Deadline for the Leibniz-DAAD Fellowship

Launched in 2011 by the Leibniz Association (Wissenschaftsgemeinschaft Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), The "Leibniz-DAAD Research Fellowship" offers highly-qualified recent foreign postdocs the opportunity to conduct special research at institutes of the Leibniz Association in Germany.

These postdoctoral grants can be awarded for up to a maximum of 12 months. The grant includes:

    -a monthly installment of 1,840.- EUR;
    -a monthly subsidy of 58 EUR for the insurance for health, accident and personal/private liability in Germany (53 EUR per month has to be covered by the fellowship holder);
    -a two-month German language course (if desired).

Application Requirements: At the time of their application, applicants for a Leibniz-DAAD Research Fellowship, should neither be of German nationality nor reside longer than six months in Germany.

The workshop will take place on Sunday, February 2, 2014 at the Hyatt Regency Boston from 9:00 am � 12:30 pm.

Job Opening in German House in NYC: Executive Assistant / Events Coordinator

This is a full-time position from March to September, 2014. The person fulfilling the role of Executive Assistant / Events Coordinator is responsible for providing administrative and general support to the American Friends of Bucerius, as well as the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) NYC in equal parts (20 hours / week each).

Responsibilities:
-Coordinate travel planning, including making flight, hotel and car reservations as appropriate;
-Provide support by scheduling meetings, reserving meeting rooms, preparing meeting materials, and preparing travel and expense reports;
-Provide administrative support, to include but not limited to phone service, faxing, filing, copying, mail distribution and office supply management;
-Ensure excellent customer service by providing timely and accurate information to all stakeholders as needed;
-Assistant in event management and activities.

Selection Criteria:
-Undergraduate degree highly desirable
-High degree of professionalism required
-Experience in the scheduling and managing of special events
-Advanced experience in Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point. Social Media: Twitter, Facebook a plus
-Experience with database management helpful
-Ability to take initiative; self-starter
-Strong oral and written communication skills
-Very good English and German language skills
-Strong planning and organizational skills
-Dependable and consistent

Compensation and Benefits:
Salary commensurate with experience. Actual salary will depend on qualifications and anticipated contribution to the organizations.

Call for Submissions: German Life and Letters

German Life and Letters, one of the world�s leading journals in German Studies, invites excellent submissions on all aspects of German literature, film, culture, politics, language, and society, present and past. Submissions may be written in English or German, and should not normally exceed 8,000 words. The journal�s style guidelines are available at: www.blackwellpublishing.com/pdf/GLL_stylesheet.pdf.

All submissions should include abstracts in English and German of a maximum of 200 words each.
