Looks like spring has come early.  It has been great to get outside again and go for my walks.  I hope you are all talking some time for yourself and enjoying this beautiful weather.

All GrapeVine Project nurses are invited to attend. This will be the only GrapeVine training event offered in 2015.  All unit content being presented at the conference is new! Please visit our website for more info.

GrapeVine Sessions
 
In  January, 10 sessions were held reaching 113 women.
They were:

Participant Comments from January Sessions

 

What steps would you take to help someone showing signs of dementia?  1/26/15 - Encourage medical doctor's input. Speak with family  members, validate persons feelings when expressing concern, contact county ADRC (Aging and Disability Resource Centers. )

Based on what you learned at the session, have you taken any action or made any changes to reduce your or your family members' risk of heart disease?  1/17/15 - Yes. Trying to improve eating habits.

 

What is the most important message you remember from the session on heart disease?  1/14/15 - That I may be at risk and now I know what to look for, what to ask doctors and try to be healthier.

We are all busy trying to juggle work, family and home. Meeting job deadlines, taking care of our kids, parents, or pets, and keeping up with all the household chores may be overwhelming. Sometimes we have too much going on and become stressed. The question is: Are you managing your stress, or is it managing you? Give yourself a break, take a deep breath, relax and learn what you can do to help manage your stress.

  • Arthritis Awareness Month - Arthritis is the #1 cause of disability. The Arthritis Foundation can help you learn more about the symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and management of the disease.
  •   Better Hearing and Speech Month - This year's theme is "Early Detection Counts".  Learn about communication disorders and available resources.
  • Healthy Vision Month - Raises awareness about eye health, exams, and safety.
  • Hepatitis Awareness Month - Hepatitis means inflammation of the liver and also refers to a group of viral infections that affect the liver. The most common types are Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C.  Viral hepatitis is the leading cause of liver cancer and the most common reason for liver transplantation .
  • Melanoma/Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month - The American Academy of Dermatology has tools and information to help educate your community to prevent and detect skin cancer. 
  • Mental Health Month -This year's theme is "B4Stage4" and will focus on early intervention.  A toolkit will be available at the site March 16th.
  • National Asthma and Allergy Awareness Month - May is peak season for asthma and allergy sufferers, and a perfect time to educate individuals about these diseases. 
  • National Celiac Disease Awareness Month - Learn about the differences between Celiac Disease, wheat allergies and gluten intolerance and why it is important to get the proper medical diagnosis.
  • National Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention Month  - F ind information about preventing osteoporosis and promoting strong bones through education, advocacy and research.
  • National Physical Fitness and Sports Month - No matter what your age, it is important to be physically active. Check out this website for a toolkit and information for all ages.
  • National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Month - Help educate teens with the knowledge, skills and services they need to prevent unintended pregnancy.
  • Preeclampsia Awareness Month - Help pregnant women understand the warning signs of preeclampsia which can affect both the mother's and baby's health.
  • Ultraviolet Awareness Month - Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays can burn eye tissue and increase your risk of cataracts and cancers of the eye.  Learn how to protect your eyes
  • National Mediterranean Diet Month - The Mediterranean Diet is a way of eating based on the traditional foods (and drinks) of the countries surrounding the Mediterranean Sea.
