2012 Ernie Els "Big Easy" Chenin Blanc, SA
WAS $12 - SALE $7 Wine Club $6
Yes, I know, another golfer but if the wine is good then why not? And this dry yet fruity South African white is so good that I predict it will be the big hit of the season.
A m?lange of strawberry and pineapple flavours are all wound up by a limey-streak on the nose. Following through to a light but deft palate, the intense fruit strikes a perfect balance with creamy softness, and chalky minerality.
2009 Concha y Toro "Xplorador" Carmenere, Chile
WAS $15 - SALE $8 Wine Club $7
Carmenere was, for more than a hundred years, the mystery grape of Chile. It came from Bordeaux, France originally and made its way south during the great Phylloxera plague of the late 19th century. It went by several names and some thought it was actually merlot but no one knew for certain until until DNA testing in the mid- 1990's proved it was the Carmenere.
Lightly herbal on the nose, but overall there's more ripe berry and toasty chocolate aromas than green. Full, meaty and deep for a value-priced wine.
2011 Llai Llai Pinot Noir, Chile
WAS $18 - SALE $9 Wine Club $8
It is so hard to get values for Pinot Noir wines. This is one of the best I've seen in quite a while.
Cool-climate aromas of rhubarb, red plum and brambly spice are draped all over this zesty, racy Pinot from Chile's deep south.
2012 Greg Norman Malbec, Mendoza, Argentina
I just got some more of this great value Malbec so I'm keeping it on sale until it's gone.
