The Texas Renewable Energy Industries Alliance ("the Alliance") seeks a full-time executive director position for a negotiated contract term of two years with the ability to extend the contract.


 

This is an exceptional opportunity for a highly motivated individual that is passionate about renewable energy and knowledgeable about the energy markets in Texas and beyond. This is a high profile position and requires an individual with strong leadership skills.


 

Compensation will be commensurate with fundraising success and membership recruitment, and a candidate's perceived potential to grow the organization while steering it through a significant transitional phase. This position reports to the Alliance Board of Directors ("the Board"). Employment start date is anticipated to be April 7, 2015. The job will be based in Austin, Texas, at 13001 W. Highway 71, Austin, Texas, 78738.


 

About the Alliance

The Texas Renewable Energy Industries Alliance ("the Alliance") is a non-profit 501(c)(6) trade organization of individuals and corporations who are interested in promoting and expanding the renewable energy market. The Texas Renewable Energy Industries Alliance's mission is to promote a healthy expansion of the renewable market and host a round table environment for improved understanding of issues and opportunities impacting renewable energy markets.


 

TREIA is the successor organization to the Texas Renewable Energy Industries Association (TREIA), established in 1984, and retains the functions and membership of that organization. In addition, the Alliance's mission is expanded to focus on coordinating between and hosting round table discussions for renewable and technology associations that are formal members of the Alliance partnership. The Alliance is further delegated with the creation of a 501(c)(3) foundations that will undertake studies and analysis on topics of interest to Alliance members. Work products will include, but not be limited to, white papers, testimony, position papers, technical studies, statistical market analysis, Op-Ed articles and a range of information pieces. Funding to underwrite this work will be obtained from contributions, grants, commissioned work, etc.

Qualities of the Alliance Executive Director

Successful applicants will demonstrate the ability to do the following:

 

Recruit new members and retain membership base;

 

 

  • Maintain contact with and provide value for existing Alliance members;
  • Foster sponsorship opportunities and events;

 

  • Obtain funding from a variety of sources, to underwrite the work of both the Alliance and the Foundation R&D.

  • Stay informed and swiftly create opportunities to convene around timely policy,

    legislative, regulatory and technical topics;

  • Promote visibility to the organization industry wide by attracting large corporate

    members and utilities etc.

  •  Be a self-starter in all ways necessary to steer the organization through a significant transition and promote growth;

  •  Work effectively with a large and diverse Board of Directors to keep them informed and maintain a cohesive organization;

  •  Develop a strategic plan with the Board, budget to the plan, and execute it;

  • Hire and manage staff and/or subcontract functions.

    Other qualifications:

  • Proven experience in the energy field as well as non-profit organizations;

  •  Strong, proven leadership skills;

  •  Think creatively;

  •  Be adaptable and flexible;

  • Forge consensus among varied, sometimes competing, interests;

  • Exceptional oral, written & public communication skills;

  • Proven management experience, including understanding of business and accounting.

 

Proven fundraising skills and a broad networking capacity.

 

Preference may be given to candidates with fund-raising, grant procurement, non- governmental organizations (NGOs), legal, legislative, regulatory or energy industry experience.


 

Duties

Financial:

  •  Secure funding from a variety of sources, including (but not limited to) membership growth and retention, foundation and governmental grants, commissioned work for Alliance members, etc.

  •   With Board oversight and approval, develop a budget and spending plan;

  • Maintain an up-to-date and accurate accounting of revenues, expenses, and account balances using Quick Books for reporting and monitoring;

  •  Report the organization's financial status to the Board on a regular basis

    Advocacy:

  • Monitor legislative and regulatory issues and events: inform the Board, and with conference with Board's legislative committee, the membership;

  •  Testify, or arrange for testimony, as appropriate;

  •  Coordinate with Alliance partners regarding industry issue positions;

  • Arrange for analysis, studies or information pieces as needed, including securing needed funding, defining scope of work, and executing arrangements for conduct of the work;

    Convening:

  • Create opportunities for round table discussions, luncheons, workshops and other events to follow industry hot topics;

  •  Organize successful conferences and other events

    Communications/Liaison:

  • Maintain contact and service levels with Alliance members;

  • Manage external relations, including (but not limited to) press, other trade groups, industry members, government decision-makers, and regulators;

  •  Direct internal communications, including website updates, mass member email

    distributions, and other communications tools;

  • Ensure on-going communications with Alliance & Foundation partners, as needed;

  • Articulate the industry position and "voice" to legislators, regulators and other

    policy/decision-makers as appropriate;

  •  Serve as primary liaison to state, regional and national allies

    Administration:

  • Hire and direct staff;

  • Coordinate and manage contracted support, including (but not limited to) media

    relations, legal counsel, technical consultants, administrative support, etc.;

  •  Find innovative project subcontracting to commission based experts;

  • Identify and secure an Austin local to host frequent luncheons and round table

    discussions

  •  Secure and maintain permanent Alliance office space;

  • Organize and oversee all office management (equipment, payroll, accounting, etc.).
