RAPSS Training Underway; Mandatory for All New
NIH Proposals Begins with Proposals Due June 5
Training on the new Research Administration and Proposal Submission System (RAPSS) will be conducted on all campuses through May 7. RAPSS will be limited in phase one to submission of new NIH grant proposals, starting April 29. All faculty members who plan to submit a new proposal to NIH must use RAPSS and should notify their grant specialist immediately. Faculty members planning to use RAPSS should attend a training session at least two weeks before the proposal due date. Read more here.

Publish and Flourish: Workshops in Newark

Dana Library will be offering author talks April 21 and 27. The programs have been developed by Elsevier to provide information and encouragement to early career researchers to publish. The workshops begin with a presentation by an Elsevier publisher, followed by a discussion with journal editors from a Newark faculty member. Who Will Win the Top Prize in the Nicholson-Rutgers Health Care Delivery Competition?

Over the past four months, numerous multi-disciplinary teams at Rutgers have been working on innovative solutions to improve health care delivery and health outcomes for vulnerable populations in New Jersey. The top prize is $50,000 to pilot a nascent technology in a clinical setting. Three teams will present their solutions to a panel of expert judges and a winner will be selected during an April 22 award ceremony. It will run from 5-8 p.m. at Douglass Student Center, Trayes Hall, 100 George St., New Brunswick. The event is free and a light dinner is included. Please register here if you plan to attend.

New Innovation Grants Program Launched by N.J. Health Foundation and Nicholson Foundation

The New Jersey Health Foundation recently launched its new Innovation Grants Program with the Nicholson Foundation as a funding collaborator. Each is contributing $250,000, creating a total fund of $500,000.  The Innovation Grants, up to $50,000 each, can be awarded to faculty and personnel who are working on promising ideas that may lead to developing intellectual property or promising technology. QED Proof-of-Concept Funding Program

Peter Melley, University City Science Center program director, is coming to Rutgers' Busch and Newark campuses, on April 29 to discuss this opportunity for investigators who are interested in becoming directly involved in the entrepreneurial aspects of technology development. The QED Program seeks medical technologies with commercial potential, offering up to $100,000 in cash over 12 months, to be matched by institutional resources identified by the applicant. Research Council Grants Deadline is May 8

Rutgers' Research Council supports studies in all fields of learning at Rutgers with potential for significant outside funding and publication, including creative work in the arts, every year through numerous small grants to faculty members. The average award last year was about $1,400, but applicants may request up to $5,000. May 8 is the deadline. The application form, instructions and more information are posted here. 

BIO 2015 International Convention

This year's BIO International Convention, one of the top annual meetings for the life sciences industry, is coming to Philadelphia June 15-18. Rutgers will play a prominent role in the New Jersey Pavilion and faculty members are invited to participate. The Office of Research and Economic Development will cover fees for qualifying poster presentations. Workshops on HathiTrust at Alexander Library

Members of the Rutgers community are cordially invited to join two hands-on workshops exploring the resources of HathiTrust on April 24 in Alexander Library. The first workshop, "Exploring the HathiTrust Digital Library," will cover using the search functionality, downloading PDFs and creating public and private collections. The second, "Getting Started with the HathiTrust Research Center," will focus on the center's textual analysis tools. Read more here.

1st Pitch Life Science

1st Pitch Life Science is organized by Mid Atlantic Bio Angels, a life science investor group, to encourage and educate aspiring life science entrepreneurs who know they may be too early to seek investment but want the opportunity to practice their pitch and to receive constructive criticism from experienced and knowledgeable professionals. Audience members get to hear how entrepreneurs are pursuing new science and new business opportunities and can provide their own feedback regarding the value and effectiveness of those efforts.
