AGEING IN CITIES

Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)

Published April 30, 2015

Within OECD metropolitan areas across the globe, the older population is growing faster than the total population. This publication outlines trends, challenges and opportunities in aging urban areas, using demographic data from OECD countries. Case studies provide examples of programs, policies and governance strategies in the priority areas of:
  • Developing a long-term vision for aging societies
  • Developing indicators to measure aging societies
  • Promoting health for all ages
  • Increasing older people's engagement in the labour market and in social activities
  • Providing affordable living in accessible environments
  • Redesigning the urban area to increase attractiveness and wellbeing
The policy highlights brief at 32 pages is very readable and incorporates learnings from the case studies throughout. A 204 page book that you can read online or purchase provides more detail.
