HOW AUTISTIC PEOPLE HELPED SHAPE THE MODERN WORLD

The Center for  Disease Control and Prevention estimates that one in 68 children in the US are on the autism spectrum, a number that stands in staggering contrast to a 1970 study that put the figure at one in 14,200. Some people believe we're in the middle of an autism epidemic. But autism has always been part of the human experience, as journalist Steve Silberman shows in his new book,  NeuroTribes: The Legacy of Autism and the Future of Neurodiversity . It's only recently, he argues, that we have become properly aware of it.

Update & Reminder: Pennsylvania's Budget

Pennsylvania does not yet have a final budget for the current fiscal year that started on July 1.  The Disability Rights Network of Pennsylvania (DRN) supports a final state budget that provides full funding for people with disabilities to have appropriate home and community-based services, to receive a free appropriate public education, and to get jobs in the community.

DRN recommends that you continue to reach out to your Senator and Representative about the importance of funding for disability-related services.  Find your local information HERE
