With the weather warming up and the arrival of spring, the WTS NC Triangle Chapter is busy preparing some great events for you.
Next Tuesday, we will hold our rescheduled luncheon to honor the chapter's Scholarship winners, and Susan Pullium with NCDOT will be giving a presentation on North Carolina's 25-year vision. On the 15th, Lori Bruhn will kick off our 2015 breakfast series with a discussion on efficient and effective meetings. Jane Nelson with HDR will discuss Right-of-Way Acquisition on the 16th for our final Transportation YOU event of the school year, and we're looking for volunteers to help on a Woman's Build through Habitat for Humanity on the 24th.
Additionally, Stand Up 4 Transportation Day is April 9, and our chapter has joined APTA and its cause. To find out more and see what you can do, click here.

Registration is open for the 2015 WTS Annual Conference - Converge Chicago. The Annual Conference is WTS' networking event of the year. Private corporations, public agencies and government officials invested in every transportation mode will exhibit, present and learn. Activities will include technical tours, professional development programs and educational tracks. Erin Brockovich will give the keynote address.

Efficient and Effective Meetings

The next breakfast series event will focus on Efficient and Effective Meetings, featuring guest speaker Lori Bruhns, professional trainer and coach. The event will be April 15 at Stewart's offices at 421 Fayetteville St., Suite 400, in Raleigh. The registration fee is $5, which includes coffee and bagels. Click the link below to register.

Stand Up 4 Transportation Day

|
The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) is holding a nationwide "Stand Up 4 Transportation" Day on April 9 and seeking a broad coalition of partners to participate in these events around the country. The purpose is to call for the importance of infrastructure investment and the need for a long-term surface transportation authorization bill. The WTS-NC Triangle Chapter hosted the WISE program (Women in Science and Engineering) from NC State University at its latest Transportation YOU event. Dr. Katherine Wise-Becker, director of the program, spoke to the girls in attendance about WISE and brought five of the young women in the program to participate in a panel discussion about WISE, college in general, being a woman in a science-oriented field and all other related subjects. The chapter recently partnered with NCDOT for this year's "Introduce a Girl to Engineering" Days, a mentoring event for high-school-aged girls. Read more about the events at the link below.

This year's Go Gala, a fundraiser for WTS-NC Triangle Chapter's scholarship program, will be held May 14. Registration information will be announced soon, so keep watching this space. John Oliver on Infrastructure

In case you missed it, comedian John Oliver recently filed a report on the need for more infrastructure spending in the country on his HBO show, "Last Week Tonight." (Caution: Bad language is bleeped, but it may not be safe to watch at work.)
