2015 Changes for Inventory Tax Credit

The state inventory tax credit was in jeopardy this past legislative session due to the budget gap. The credit was kept but with some changes on refund ability. For some taxpayers, the credit will change to a carry forward.

If the credit amount exceeds the tax liability for the tax year, eligible taxpayers will get a full refund of the credit if their tax liability is less than $10,000.

Eligible taxpayers whose ad valorem taxes are $10,000 or more, will be refunded 75 percent of the excess credit. The remaining 25 percent of the credit may be carried forward as a credit against subsequent tax liability. Fortunately, this carry forward can be used for up to five years.

What Drives A Buyer To Select A Particular Home?

If you have ever wondered what drives a home buyer to select a particular home look no further. The American Housing Survey provides insight into the home buying process, and NAHB economist Heather Taylor broke down the data in a recent Eye on Housing blog post.
The survey shows the top two reasons for choosing a home were its size (cited by 76% of buyers) and room layout/design (74%). The house's price and the neighborhood were each cited by 72% of home buyers. For buyers of new homes, room layout/design, neighborhood, exterior appearance and construction quality tended to be even more important than for other types of buyers. Among first-time buyers, on the other hand, price was more often a consideration (see Graph 1 below). To read the entire article on NAHBNOW.com CLICK HERE

Are YOU the next
BUILD-PAC Champion?

BUILD-PAC Champions is a new program to recognize, support and thank our most successful fundraisers.

How can YOU become a BUILD-PAC Champion?

Aimed at growing BUILD-PAC participation at all levels, a BUILD-PAC Champion is defined as a BUILD-PAC contributor who raises $10,000 or more in new money annually. All new personal BUILD-PAC contributions should be sent directly to BUILD-PAC staff. It is incumbent upon the aspiring BUILD-PAC Champion to notify staff of all contributions raised.

What benefits come with being a BUILD-PAC Champion?
- BUILD-PAC Champion lapel pin.
- Exclusive access to the Capitol Club hospitality suite.
- Invitation to the Capitol Club dinner at the International Builders' Show to be recognized and thanked.
- Name recognition at NAHB's Annual Board Meetings.

What is considered new money for BUILD-PAC?
- NAHB members who have never contributed to BUILD-PAC.
- NAHB members who did not contribute the previous year.
- NAHB members who upgrade to a higher giving level. (New money is only the increased amount i.e. a Gold Key member ($1,000) upgrades to Capitol Club ($5,000) - only $4,000 is classified as new money.)
