SABA-NC Legal Clinics

 

The Pro Bono Committee seeks Attorney and Law School Volunteers for our monthly legal clinics in Milpitas and Sunnyvale.  The time commitment is minimal - 2 hours - and the reward is helping out community members with limited resources and guiding them through the legal maze.  The most common issues handled at the clinics are immigration, family law, wills/trusts/elder law, and civil litigation (although other topics do come up).  We have all of the resources you need to assist the clientele!

 

RECENT GRADUATES:  This is a GREAT opportunity to get some legal work under your belt with guidance from seasoned attorneys.

 

All clinics run from 10 am to 12 pm.

The San Francisco Police Department and Not In Our Town (NIOT) cordially invite you to a screening of two new half-hour documentaries, A Prosecutor's Stand and Waking in Oak Creek, at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center in San Francisco on Thursday, May 7th, 2015.

 
A Prosecutor's Stand follows San Francisco Assistant District Attorney Victor Hwang as he brings hate crime charges against perpetrators who brutally attack a Mayan dishwasher, an African American homeless man, and a transgender woman. Waking in Oak Creek profiles a suburban community and local law enforcement working to heal after six worshipers at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin are killed in a hate crime shooting. 

 
Featured guests include San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr, NIOT Executive Producer Patrice O'Neill, San Francisco Police Commissioner Victor Hwang, and other Bay Area hate crime specialists.

APILO is a non-profit organization that serves under-represented segments of the Asian Pacific Islander community including survivors of elder abuse, domestic violence, and human trafficking. We also work with youth on preventing dating violence, and individuals who are treated unjustly by the immigration process.

spotlightSABA-NC congratulates Anagha Dandekar Clifford, Land Use Partner at Wendel, Rosen, Black & Dean LLP, on her inclusion in the San Francisco Business Times' "40 Under 40" class of 2015, which honors Bay Area rising business stars across all industries. Inductees were recognized at a special reception on March 19 at AT&T Park in San Francisco.

 

Clifford counsels private businesses and public agencies on complex land use issues involving applicable planning, zoning and environmental laws. Her experience includes preparing land use applications and obtaining project approvals, working frequently with state and local regulatory and permitting agencies. In her public agency practice, Clifford provides counsel and advocacy on permitting/public bidding and contract disputes, governance, election, transportation and regulatory matters. She currently represents a high-profile planning and development team in exploring how to create a transportation-oriented community development that retains the Raiders, the Warriors and/or the A's in Oakland. She also serves as legal counsel to several Geologic Hazard Abatement Districts and represents the Alameda County Transportation Commission on issues related to governance and policy. 

 

Actively involved in her industry and community, Clifford is currently part of an effort to open a San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association (SPUR) office in Oakland and sits on the organization's inaugural board. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the California Infill Federation, as land use chair of the Downtown Oakland Community Benefit District, on the steering committee of 2.Oakland and on the Board of Directors of the Marcus Foster Education Fund. Clifford also advises the East Bay Economic Development Alliance on general legal issues.  

 

Clifford earned her J.D. from the University of California at Davis, King Hall School of Law (2004) and her B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley (1998).

The South Asian Bar Association - Northern California chapter ("SABA-NC") was the first South Asian bar association in North America.   Founded in 1993, SABA-NC provides a voice to Bay Area South Asian lawyers and seeks to ensure they are provided an avenue to develop professionally, network among peers, and volunteer within the South Asian community. SABA-NC also seeks to protect the rights of South Asians in the Bay Area and to educate the public on issues facing the South Asian community.
