Should I use my cell phone as a contact number in online job postings?

4 Ways to Mobilize Candidates

Today's job search no longer consists of skimming through the local newspaper or sitting at home mulling over one job board after another -- the job search has gone mobile. With 8 out of 10 job seekers using their mobile devices in their job search, it's critical for employers to embrace this preferred method of communication. Here are four ways to take your mobile hiring process to the next level:

  1. Optimize your career site for mobile devices.
  2. Simplify online applications so job seekers can complete quickly and easily.
  3. Provide video interviews for on-the-go job seekers.
  4. Utilize text messages to communicate with candidates.
3 Old School Criteria

In the old days of paper resumes, employers judged candidates by the quality of their resume. With the rise of mobile devices, many old school ways of evaluating resumes and candidate communication have gone out the window. Employers need to think differently about these three old school criteria.

  1. Spelling mistakes - they are now common and accepted in online communication.
  2. Poor grammar - online communication has gone super casual.
  3. Cover letters - the exception, than the rule.
Hiring Tip

When a viable candidate applies to your job openings, send a LinkedIn invitation to connect. You may learn more about the candidate from their profile and you can gauge the depth of their social connections.

Answer to Today's Dos & Don'ts

"Should I use my cell phone as a contact number in online job postings?"

Answer:

Best practice is to use a company phone number. Once you have connected with candidates and interviewed them, then feel free to give out your cell number if necessary. Also, plan to give candidates your cell number when meeting with them for an out-of-office interview.
