The 7th biennial Botanic Gardens Australia and New Zealand (BGANZ) Congress will be held in the coastal city of Wollongong NSW from Sunday 25 October to Thursday 29 October 2015.
 
The 2015 congress theme 'Connecting with Communities' will highlight the many ways in which botanic gardens across Australia and New Zealand play an important role in the environments in which we live through partnerships, joint ventures, sharing, outreach work and advocacy.
 
The BGANZ Congress will enable botanic garden professionals an opportunity to come together, network and return to their respective gardens with new ideas and skills. This congress promises to deliver not only thought-provoking seminars, workshops and tours but will also have a strong focus on networking through a range of events. Melbourne Zoo is seeking an experienced and passionate Nursery Person to assist the team in the sound and sustainable management of the plant nursery.
  • Based at Melbourne Zoo

  • Working 38 hours a week across Monday to Friday
Do you want to further develop your nursery experience and skills in a unique environment?

Melbourne Zoo boasts an exceptional plant nursery that plays a key role within the horticulture department. The role is responsible for planning, sourcing, growing and maintaining the botanic requirements of the invertebrate collection.

The role is responsible for assisting in the efficient, sound and sustainable management of the plant nursery.

You will have a recognised qualification, combined with practical experience across a complete range of plant production functions and an understanding of plant and insect interactions.

Furthermore, you will have experience in or an understanding of propagation and pest control methods. You will be an energetic team player, who thrives in a work-focused environment where structure is the name of the game.

If you are passionate about people, plants and wildlife and motivated by a desire to enrich our visitor experience through your hands-on and enthusiastic approach, then we would love to hear from you.

National Seed  Science Forum 14 -16 March 2016

The Australian Seed Bank Partnership is pleased to call for proposals for the National Seed Science Forum programme.  

 

Presentations that cover descriptive or mechanistic seed science, theoretical seed research, and/or their application for effective seed use are encouraged from conservation, restoration and agricultural perspectives.

   

The programme themes have been collated to span the breadth of seed science. For each of the four themes, sub-themes have been developed to demonstrate the range of topics that the Forum seeks to showcase.

 

Theme A: Dormancy and germination

Theme B: Seed storage, conservation and utilisation

Theme C: Establishment and management

Theme D: Seed ecology

 

Abstracts can be submitted for the following presentation types:

  • Oral presentation (15 minute presentation, including discussion)
  • Rapid fire presentation (5 minute presentation, no discussion)
  • Poster presentation

 

A photo competition will be run as part of the Forum and details will be available soon.

 

Forum grants

A small number of grants are available to assist presenters - in particular to support early career researchers or those travelling large distances from regional areas or interstate. The grant is for Forum registration fees. These grants are only available to a presenting author and must be applied for during the abstract submission process.
