The St. Joseph Museum Presents
The St. Joseph Preservation Expo
Saturday, May 16
With Demonstrations, Vendors, Presentations,
Children's Activities, and Seven "Parlor Visits"

If you are a homeowner you know all about the challenges and rewards of maintaining, preserving, or renovating your home. Before starting your next project, be sure to visit the first-ever St. Joseph Preservation Expo for information and inspiration. Held at the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion, the event features demonstrations, speakers, vendors, and a chance to make a "parlor visit" to seven nearby homes to learn from the owners about their preservation experiences. Guests will also be able to visit the Christian Science Church for a look at the interior restoration that has been completed.

During the event, visitors can enjoy the many booths related to preservation throughout the Mansion. Vendors and exhibitors are: Above & Beyond Concrete; The "Cracker" House Project; Missouri Preservation; Mount Mora Cemetery Restoration and Preservation; MTS Contracting Inc.; Museum Hill Neighborhood Association; Plasterkraft and Mural Masters; Questers; Shakespeare Chateau; St Joe, Places and Things We Remember; and St. Joseph Memory Lane. To take a drink or snack break, visit the Just Desserts by Mom and the St. Joseph Express Coffee Roastery booths.

To see for yourself how to approach a project, the Expo will feature such demonstrations as: Finishes, the Final Step at 9:30 a.m.; Cracking Down on Cracked Stonework at 10:30 a.m.; Plaster Repair at 11:30 a.m., Preserving the Eyes of Your Home at 12:00 p.m.; Turning Back Time through Music at 1:30 p.m.; Decorating using Period Stencils at 2:30 p.m.; and Stained Glass and Saint Joseph, Missouri at 3:30 p.m.

Eckel St. Joseph's premier architect. The Executive Director of Missouri Preservation Bill Hart will speak on Missouri Preservation at 3 p.m. At 4 p.m. Lauren Manning and Cole Woodbury will speak on the topic of Where Do We Go from Here. Their presentation will focus on downtown St. Joseph during Urban Renewal in the 1970s and what is currently taking place in other cities in terms of historic preservation.

Children's activities related to architecture and building construction will be provided on the third floor of the Mansion during the Expo. Activities will include fence building with Popsicle sticks, creating cardboard houses, building structures with peas and toothpicks, and creating with building blocks. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

"The St. Joseph Museums is proud to present the first ever Preservation Expo in St. Joseph. Our City's impressive architectural heritage is well-known throughout the State. We are excited to welcome the many exhibitors, presenters, and demonstrators including the Director of the State Historical Preservation Office and the Executive Director of Missouri Preservation. The Expo is a great way for people to learn how to maintain, enhance, and rehabilitate the character of their property, as well as learn about our City's history. It will be a fun experience for the whole family," said St. Joseph Museum Executive Director Sara Wilson.

The Preservation Expo will be held on Saturday, May 16, at the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion, 1100 Charles Street, in Downtown St. Joseph. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $5.
