Nonprofit Leaders Honored at 2015 Graduation
2015 Fair Chance Graduating Partners
Fair Chance Graduating Partners Honored
On Monday, April 20th, more than 150 nonprofit leaders, community members, funders and friends met at Studio Theatre to celebrate the achievements of Fair Chance's graduating class of 2015. This year's graduates provide services ranging from improving academic outcomes to making healthy choices and collectively serve over 12,000 children and youth across Washington, DC. Each partner received up to 500 hours of free capacity building, coaching, and assistance in organizational management.  They join an active alumni network of more than 90 nonprofit organizations that have partnered with Fair Chance since 2002.

The evening's festivities commenced with a reception in the beautiful Studio Theatre Atrium and concluded with a ceremony honoring the graduates. During the ceremony guests viewed videos highlighting the achievements of the graduating partner organizations and each Executive Director shared how partnership with Fair Chance accelerated his or her organization's impact and sustainability. Graduates were then
inducted into the Fair Chance Alumni Network by Jodi Ovca, Executive Director of Access Youth and Fair Chance alumna class of 2012 and Jonathan Williams, Executive Director of Reach for College! and Fair Chance alumnus class of 2014.

Congratulations to Executive Directors  Lauren Shweder Biel, DC Greens; Claire Blumenson and Sarah Comeau, School Justice Project; Matt Breslin, WINNERS Lacrosse; Peter Clare, College Tribe; Cyndee Clay, HIPS; Regine Elie, Healthy Babies Project, Inc.; Nakeisha Neal Jones, Public Allies Washington, DC; Michelle Kelsey Mitchell, YoKid; Sapna Pandya, Many Languages One Voice; and Susan Punnett, Family & Youth Initiative for successfully completing your Fair Chance partnerships!
2015 Fair Chance Legacy Award

The Fair Chance Legacy Award honors outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions in support of Fair Chance's ability to create lasting impact on youth-serving nonprofits. For the inaugural award, Fair Chance honored former Board Chair Robert E. King. During his three year tenure as board chair, Bob was instrumental in articulating a vision for growing Fair Chance and under his leadership Fair Chance's budget increased by over 50 percent with the board of directors nearly doubling in size.

In honor of his late father-in-law, Dr. Samuel Halperin, Bob and his wife Deena made a matching gift of $50,000 at Fair Chance's annual Butterfly Bash gala last November. Since then, he and Deena have donated an additional $100,000 to the World Bank Community Connections Fund on behalf of Fair Chance. Through a matching program their gift of $150,000 has been leveraged to almost $300,000. This is a tremendous investment in Fair Chance's future and we were delighted to have the opportunity to honor Bob King.
