The 5-year-old beagle mix had been pulled from Monroe County Animal Control by Clarkston-based
Canine Companions Rescue Center, a Michigan
Certified Rescue organization. Dasher was found to be heartworm positive. He lived with a foster family while receiving treatment, and then waited a bit longer for just the right family to adopt him.
Dasher's original adoption bio read:
"He would be a perfect addition for any family because of his lovable demeanor and soulful eyes."
Perfect addition is right, although the "family" that adopted Dasher is a bit unconventional: he is now the Resident Dog at
Sunrise
Senior Living, an assisted-living facility in
Rochester.

Dasher snoozes on his special pillow in the physical therapy office

Widely admired by residents, staff, and visitors alike, comments about Dasher include:
"Everyone loves him. He is the perfect balance of calm and outgoing."
"Dasher is so friendly and sweet. The residents just love him."
"He is such a good dog. He is fitting in remarkably well."
Dasher has his choice of dog beds on two different floors, a cozy pillow in the physical therapy office, and assorted furniture (shhh!). He politely asks to be let out by staff into a small fenced yard when the need arises. He has a canine friend, Rocky, who lives with resident Mike Delehanty (see photo below). Several cats live at Sunrise as well, and Dasher has been very sweet and gentle around them.
Thank you to Sunrise staff along with Canine Companions Rescue Center and their fabulous team of volunteers and foster families for creating this happy tale!
