32nd Ward Newsletter
Feb 27, 2015

Just a couple of quick notes on continuing construction projects affecting your commute: the Western Avenue/Diversey Avenue water main project is moving along and traffic lanes are beginning to re-open. Please watch for slight detours and vehicles coming from construction areas and businesses. Buses will continue to operate but please watch for commuters at construction sites.  The project will be wrapped up this spring but the construction will continue for a few more weeks as crews test connections and refill drain holes.

The water main break at Armitage and Damen has been restored but Water Department crews will return to complete the repairs at a later date.

Businesses preparing their sidewalk cafes/public way use applications should submit their plans as soon as possible for processing through the City Council. Any new sidewalk cafes also have to go through the review process in each community so we encourage you to submit applications well before summer weather.

As many of you know, the City is going into runoff stage for the mayoral and some ward offices. Runoff dates and questions and answers are available here

Thanks for your support in this municipal election. If you would like to receive political updates, please check your registration in the link below on this email and sign up for political updates.

Thanks and h ave a nice weekend,
Alderman Scott Waguespack

Happening now:

  • Crews will demolish the building in the expansion of Walsh Park to make way for park improvements.
  • Light poles are going in at the eastern end of the trail.
  • Grating for the Milwaukee bridge is being installed, which is the first step in creating the bridge deck. Also at Milwaukee, steel repair and initial preparation for the steel arch cables is ongoing.
  • Steel repairs are occurring on the bridge at Winnebago.
  • At Marshfield, crews are working on guardrail installation and bridge deck repairs. Guardrail work on the bridges will also occur at Honore and Wolcott in upcoming days.
  • Crews have begun excavation work for the Milwaukee/Leavitt staircase and plaza, and are moving forward with pouring stair foundations.
  • Work on the steel ramp structures at Wood St. and Spaulding Ave. is continuing.
  • Installation of guardrail foundations and guardrails continues along the length of the Bloomingdale Trail.
  • The third phase of irrigation system components installation continues, weather-permitting.

Coming up:

  • Geosynthetic earthen foundation work will be occurring at all the non-steel ramps in coming weeks, including Drake, Whipple (de Burgos), California, Damen (Churchill), Milwaukee (Park 567), and at Walsh Park.
  • Crews have completed the bulk of the path concrete on the Bloomingdale Trail, with some paving work remaining on bridges and other areas inaccessible to the paving machine. Crews will continue hand-forming remaining small sections of the path as weather allows, but the bulk of concrete work is complete until spring.
