Workshop de-mystifies A-D-L-I

Is your organization interested in applying the Baldrige Framework for Excellence?  ADLI is an acronym for "Approach," "Deployment," "Learning," and "Integration."  This new half-day workshop set for March 27 will address the "A-D-L-I" concept of writing and scoring the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence for state or national quality award applications.

The workshop will explore how A-D-L-I applies to each category; how examiners consider and analyze each factor for scoring in each category and how A-D-L-I fits into the Organizational Profile and Results sections.

Process management + information processing = superior performance

"An Information Processing Perspective of Process Management: Evidence from Baldrige Award Recipients," by Matthew Ford, James Evans, and Suzanne Masterson in Quality Management Journal.

In one of the first studies to use primary data from the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award winners, researchers examined the relationships among environmental uncertainty, process management, information processing needs, and performance. They found that high-performing organizations in stable contexts limit process management efforts to a degree that meets their information processing needs. These results suggest the importance of the proper alignment of process management and information processing for superior performance.

Using Games to Teach Lean Management Principles

Break free of the PowerPoint rut. Next time you want to explore Lean management principles, use a game! "Games use multiple communication means and create engagement. More importantly, they help people to memorize concepts and allow for a more practical experience of lean than traditional teaching methods do." There are important things to consider with any game training. Most importantly a game should not be used by itself.

WFA Examiner Spotlight

Caitlin McLeish

Caitlin McLeish

WFA Rookie of the Year

2014 Examiner "Rookie of the Year" is Caitlin McLeish, Quality Analyst at Agrace Hospice and Palliative Care. Caitlin's  greatest take-away from being an examiner is the ability to see organizations as a whole. She writes, "By that I mean, each department has their role, but it's so important to understand how each of those departments plays a role in the bigger picture. To me, the bigger picture is ultimately to empower organizations to improve performance. Improving performance provides the framework for continued growth and learning, which helps the organization achieve its goals."

When Caitlin's not evaluating an application, she enjoys being outdoors (when it's warm, anyway!), dancing, and spending time with friends and family.
