On March 10th of this year, representatives of the Department of Sustainability of the Costa Rican Tourism Board, gave us an induction on the standards for Tour Operators and the procedures to obtain this important distinction.

This visit was very useful because it helped to clarify some doubts as to the procedures to follow and to gather necessary evidence.

We are very grateful to our colleagues and ICT (Costa Rican Tourism Board) representatives who motivated us to continue with our efforts in sustainability.

Saint Joseph's Day - March 19th

We celebrate St. Joseph's Day, patron saint of San Jose and San Jose Province, and we invite you we invite you to a time of reflection on family remembering the words of Pope Francis in the 2014 celebration of this day:

"We look to Joseph as the model educator, who watches over and accompanies Jesus as he grows "in wisdom, age and grace", as the Gospel says. He was not Jesus' father: the father of Jesus was God, but he was a father to Jesus, he was a father to Jesus in order to help him grow. And how did he help him grow? In wisdom, age and grace... Age, which is the most natural dimension, physical and psychological growth. Joseph together with Mary, cared for Jesus above all from this point of view, that is he "raised" him, taking care that he lacked nothing he needed for healthy development... Joseph was for Jesus the example and the teacher of the wisdom that is nourished by the Word of God. We could ponder how Joseph formed the little Jesus to listen to the Sacred Scriptures, above all by accompanying him on Saturday to the Synagogue in Nazareth. Joseph accompanied Jesus so that he would listen to the Word of God in the Synagogue. And lastly, the dimension of "grace". St Luke always says of Jesus: "the favour of God was upon him" (2:40). Here, of course, the role reserved to St Joseph is more limited than it was in the area of age and wisdom. But it would be a grave error to think that a father and mother can do nothing to form their child to grow in the grace of God. To grow in age, to grow in wisdom and to grow in grace: this is the work Joseph did with Jesus, to help him grow in these three ways, to aid his growth".
Battle of Santa Rosa  - March  20th

During the second half of the nineteenth century slavery prevalent in some countries in America, and the United States and Brazil. This had a large impact on the historical fact of Costa Rica known as "The National Campaign", as the American William Walker intended to submit to the yoke the people of Central America, with his imperialist ideas.

The United States was in the process of development, so the arrival of Walker to Central America favored the expansionist policy of that country to take over other lands and to exert their dominance.

At that time the president of Costa Rica was Don Juan Rafael Mora Porras, known as Juanito Mora, who faced the threat of filibuster group, led by Walker, who intended to invade the country. Consequently, President Mora Porras called the Costa Rican people and organized an army to defend national sovereignty.

Once he formed the army, it marched to Guanacaste to face the filibusters. On March 20th, 1856 at Santa Rosa, Costa Rican troops fought the first battle, and with a proper military strategy they defeated the invaders forcing them to leave the territory.

This was the first victory of the Costa Rican army, which greatly enhanced the confidence and morale of the people to continue fighting, to stop filibustering in Central America.

Día de la Carreta Típica - National Symbol of work - March 22nd

The traditional oxcart is the most famous form of handicraft in Costa Rica. Since the mid-nineteenth century, oxcarts were used to transport coffee beans from the central valley of Costa Rica, in the mountains, to Puntarenas on the Pacific coast.

This type of wagon was decreed National Symbol, on March 22nd, 1988 by Decree No. 18197-C, and published in La Gaceta No. 131 on July 11th, 1988 during the presidency of Dr. Oscar Arias Sánchez. It was declared a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO on November 24th 2005.

It symbolizes the culture of peace and the work of Costa Rica - humility, patience, sacrifice, and perseverance in the quest to achieve their goals.
