What's Left On Our To-Do List?

Due to several hours of debate on a handful of bills (designating the Bible as the official state book, abortion restrictions, etc.) and lengthy floor calendars, legislators did not get to the few remaining bills that we're watching this past week. However, they will absolutely be heard next week! According to the most recent calendars, the House is scheduled to have floor sessions Monday-Thursday. Right now, the Senate is only scheduled to have a floor session on Tuesday.

As many of you know, it's hard to say anything's for certain this time of year at the Capitol, but legislators are striving to adjourn by the end of next week. Both the House and Senate have passed the budget, but there are still many bills that need to be heard on the floor. Please check our Facebook and Twitter pages frequently next week, as well as our website. Any information that we've listed below could easily change with little to no warning. If you have any questions about what's likely to be the final days of the 109th General Assembly, please don't hesitate to give A.J. or Jerry a call at (615) 269-7111.

Monday, April 20th

House Floor Session, 3 p.m.
-House Bill 1286 (SB 798):  This BAD bill by Representative Jeremy Durham deals with blocking public highways and other passageways, as well as who has the authority to "police" an area. Several legislators have voiced their concerns about the authoritative power that the legislation gives to ordinary citizens.
Note: An amendment to this bill has been filed which narrows who has control over a piece of property. While this has addressed some lawmakers' concerns, this is still a BAD bill!

Tuesday, April 21st

Senate Finance, Ways & Means Committee, 10 a.m., LP 12
-Senate Bill 721 (HB 997):  Another BAD
piece of legislation, this bill would enact the "Tennessee Employee Injury Benefit Alternative." It's also known as the Workers' Compensation "Opt Out" bill.
Note: This bill has been rolled to the first calendar of 2016 in the House. Please call any of the senators on this committee (click here to access the list), and ask them to vote "no" on SB 721!

Senate Floor Session, 11:30 a.m.
-Senate Bill 798 (HB 1286):  This is the Senate companion to Representative Durham's bill that will be heard on the House floor on Monday.

Wednesday, April 22nd & Thursday, April 23rd

The House is scheduled to meet for floor sessions at 9 a.m. on both days. If any legislation that we're watching is moved to either day (or if the Senate schedules a floor session), we will let you know ASAP!
