An Independence Day Message from AIPAC

David Ben-Gurion once said, "In Israel, in order to be a realist you must believe in miracles."

As turmoil and conflict rage across the Middle East, Israel remains a beacon of hope. With so much focus on Iran, ISIS, hate and terror, we all spend far too little time appreciating the miracle that is Israel.

But this week, as we celebrate the 67th anniversary of the modern Jewish state, it is our opportunity to take a moment and celebrate what Israel has become and what it aspires to achieve in the years ahead.

With that in mind, here are seven stories that you may have missed about what Israel, Israelis or Israeli technology has done in the past year.

  • Israeli-made sterile tents were sent to West African nations to help combat the deadly Ebola virus.
  • IsraAID brought more than 3,000 winter items for distribution to Christians and Yazidis fleeing ISIS in Iraq.
  • An Israeli breakthrough in the treatment of cancer uses nanoparticles to specifically target tumors and blood cancers.
  • Israeli firms and technology brought new solar energy fields to bring power to Rwanda and Burundi.
  • The Economist ranked Tel Aviv as the second best start-up ecosystem in the world.
  • An Israeli company is developing a llow-cost smart patch pump designed for patients of all ages with diabetes, Parkinson's and other chronic conditions.
These stories, combined with everything else the Jewish state has achieved, should make us all proud of everything we do here at home to help protect the modern miracle that is Israel.
