Volume IX, Number 5
Fourth Sunday of Ordinary Time
All were amazed and asked one another, "What is this? A new teaching with authority." Mark 1:21-28
Question of the week: Who has been a disciple that has taught you in ways you had never imagined? What about their way of teaching was so inspiring?

Looking ahead...
Fifth Sunday of Ordinary Time
He told them, "Let us go on to the nearby villages that I may preach there also.  For this purpose have I come." Mark 1:29-39
Question of the week:
There is an urgency to Jesus' response to the disciples, despite his need for quiet prayer. When have you felt called to respond with urgency to build the Kingdom of God, despite your own needs?

Catechetical Resources
Through a special partnership with the Interfaith Broadcasting Commission and ABC Television Network in the USA, Salt and Light Catholic Media Foundation is pleased to announce that their 2014 documentary "The Francis Effect" will begin airing on close to 250 ABC affiliates beginning on February 8, 2015.

Fr. Thomas Reese also released an article on The Francis Effect entitled, "The Church Is More Than Just The Pope."  He says, "Francis has given us hope and shown us the way, but it is up to us to pick up the ball and run with it. There is no room in the church for passive observers; we are all called to be the body of Christ active in our world today." Perhaps, the fitting question is, "What is your contribution to The Francis Effect?"

News From the Vatican:
"Among the number are four U.S. prelates: Louisville, Ky., Archbishop Joseph Kurtz; Philadelphia Archbishop Charles Chaput; Galveston-Houston Cardinal Daniel DiNardo; and Los Angeles Archbishop Jos Gmez....From the U.S. the substitutes are Chicago Archbishop Blase Cupich and San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone." #Synod2015

"Speaking to Vatican Radio, Monsignor Guido Marini, Master of Pontifical Liturgical Celebrations, says that from now on - starting from the 29th June this year - the ceremony of investiture of the Pallium will take place in the Metropolitan Archbishops home dioceses and not in the Vatican... Marini says that in this way the ceremony will continue to symbolize communion between the See of Peter and the Successor of the Apostle and those who are chosen to carry out the episcopal ministry as Metropolitan Archbishop of an Ecclesiastical Province, and it will favor the participation of the local Church in an important moment of its life and history."
