Our lives are busier than ever, and children as no exception, with many I know personally having more options and opportunities than they have time for! Summer is often a time for unscheduling, for free time and relaxation, but it can also become a time to pack as much fun and excitement in as possible. If you find yourself giving in to this thoroughly understandable urge to do All the Tings and have All the Fun possible, even if it's exhausting, take a moment to breathe, and consider your options.
As Unitarian Universalists, we believe that mystery and wonder, expressed in children sometimes as "the magic of childhood", are important aspects of nurturing the spiritual life. But when the pursuit of magic keeps us from noticing the inherent wonder in our lived experience, may we have the chance to celebrate something simpler, and .choose to take it. In this HuffPost Parents column, Bunmi Laditan declares, "I'm done making my kid's childhood magical." Maybe you will as well.
