Thank You

2014-2015 Learning Fellows!!

Thank you to Scott Youmans! Scott provided tech support and participated in worship services. From Scott:

Thank you for the opportunity to serve this community for the past two years. The time has passed quickly, and much has changed in our lives since I first stepped into the role of Ministerial Fellow. At the time, I was beginning to defer my M.Div. program at Starr King and wondering how I would continue my formation during the pause. The CLF provided an answer, offering a community that nourished, enlivened, and challenged me while also providing a place for me to explore ways of being a "Ministerial Fellow" in the world. It also remained a stable foundation in my life as I was laid-off from my full-time job and then relocated halfway across the U.S. for a new job. The layoff and the new job seemed to turn the plans that I had made for myself on-end: I withdrew from seminary and I began to re-examine the work/life qualities I had been praying for. My formation continues, and while I'm not in seminary, I do consider how I "minister" in my day-to-day life. At work, I am able to offer myself as a servant-leader to my team and provide a non-anxious presence in anxiety-producing meetings. At the Boulder Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, where my wife and I are friends, I will be facilitating a book discussion group for our Racial Justice Task Force this fall. I leave this community with a deep sense of gratitude for all that you've given me, and a deep sense of awe and appreciation for all that you do.

Thank you to Kari Kopnick who helped CLF immeasurably with Family Ministries and development of the Family Quest section of the website. We will miss you  Kari but we know that you will continue to be amazing wherever you go!

Elizabeth Bukey is moving on from CLF after a year with our worship team! Thank you to Elizabeth for working with us during our year of adobe and for always being so willing to lend a helping hand! and here from Elizabeth...

Thank you so much to CLFers for a remarkable term as a Learning Fellow. I truly learned so very much from doing ministry in this community. I continue to be amazed at the way in which we are able to "show up" for one another through the distance of geography, life experience, and beliefs. Please know that you are loved, just as you are, and keep courageously connecting with one another and the larger fellowship of liberal religion.

RE Create
Our lives are busier than ever, and children as no exception, with many I know personally having more options and opportunities than they have time for! Summer is often a time for unscheduling, for free time and relaxation, but it can also become a time to pack as much fun and excitement in as possible. If you find yourself giving in to this thoroughly understandable urge to do All the Tings and have All the Fun possible, even if it's exhausting, take a moment to breathe, and consider your options.

As Unitarian Universalists, we believe that mystery and wonder, expressed in children sometimes as "the magic of childhood", are important aspects of nurturing the spiritual life. But when the pursuit of magic keeps us from noticing the inherent wonder in our lived experience, may we have the chance to celebrate something simpler, and .choose to take it. In this HuffPost Parents column, Bunmi Laditan declares, "I'm done making my kid's childhood magical." Maybe you will as well.
