Society 1858 raises funds to support the 1858 Prize for Contemporary Southern Art, a $10,000 cash prize awarded to an artist whose work contributes to a new understanding of art in the South. Presented annually, the Prize recognized the highest level of artistic achievement in any media. Artists from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia are eligible to apply. 

Applications are accepted exclusively through 1858Prize.org from January to May each year. Help spread the word by sharing this email with your favorite artists and encouraging them to apply.
