Miami based Medical Students in Action (MSA) traveled to the Caribbean and treated over 1200 patients March 28th-April 4th, 2015. The MSA team of almost 120 includes healthcare practitioners (doctors and dentists), medical students (in a learning capacity), Carrollton Sacred Heart and other local High School students (providing language translation) plus logistics/administrative support. "I love giving back and providing the much needed care and education to the under served communities of the Dominican Republic," stated Co-Medical Director, Donato Arguelles, MD. "Providing basic primary care, dental care, antenatal care, and gynecologic screening to the impoverished communities has become a passion of mine," added Medical Director Steven Chavoustie, MD. MSA, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit charitable organization, travels throughout the year to the rural villages of the Dominican Republic, providing medical and dental care as well as public health education to the underserved. MSA is in its 15th year of operation. All medical/dental personnel volunteer their expertise and time. Relying solely on charitable donations for the medical mission, all donations go to providing medicines and supplies to the people served.
