About the Community Foundation
The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley enhances the quality of life for residents and future generations of the Mahoning Valley by managing donor assets, distributing grants and advancing philanthropy and good works.
The foundation and its affiliates hold more than $56 million in assets and distributed more than $1 million in grants in the fiscal year ended June 30, 2014.
The CFMV is the only local foundation with accreditation from the Community Foundation National Standards Board. More information is available at the foundation's website, www.cfmv.org.

About the William Swanston Charitable Fund
Established in 1919, the Swanston Fund seeks to help improve the lives of children in Mahoning and Trumbull counties. It provides grants each year that support early childhood education, anti-obesity measures, after-school programs, parent-involvement seminars, anti-bullying initiatives and many other efforts in support of local children. The Swanston Fund is an affiliate of the Community Foundation.

About the Trumbull Memorial Health Foundation
The TMHF provides grants each year to initiatives that advance the health of Trumbull County residents. With assets of more than $13 million, it is the successor to the Trumbull Memorial Hospital Foundation, which was created by the hospital in 1976. Since 2012, the foundation has operated separately from the hospital as an affiliate of the Community Foundation.

About the Western Reserve Health Foundation
The WRHF receives donations and awards grants that promote health-related needs in Mahoning County. As of June 30, 2014, the foundation had more than $13 million in assets. The foundation was established in the 1980s as the fundraising arm of the Western Reserve Care System. In 2012, the foundation expanded its mission to support healthcare needs countywide and became an affiliate of the Community Foundation.

CFMV Renews Certification
To National Standards
 The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley has again been accredited by the Community Foundations National Standards Board, a national authority that reviews community foundations for operational excellence. The CFMV is the only foundation in the Mahoning Valley with national standards accreditation. Opera Western Reserve staged "Don Giovanni" in November.
The Community Foundation recently welcomed two new component funds that will benefit the arts and individuals. Opera Western Reserve established an agency endowment fund that will help the organization fulfill its charitable goals. The Youngstown Alumnae Panhellenic Association created a scholarship fund for female undergraduate college students who are actively involved in a sorority on their campus. Read more. |

Round of CFMV General Grants
The Community Foundation is accepting applications for its next round of general grants. The deadline is April 1. To access the foundation's online application, click here. The foundation welcomes proposals from any 501(c)(3) organization in Mahoning or Trumbull county that supports the arts, culture, humanities, children, education, the environment and/or animals, health, human services, public/society benefit, religious/charitable purposes or scientific research. |

TMHF Grants Back YWCA Renovation,
Access to Health Care, Food Deliveries
 A grant from the Trumbull Memorial Health Foundation will support the ongoing resurgence of the Warren YWCA and enable it to convert an unused swimming pool area into program space. The $150,000 grant is the largest among $196,000 in the health foundation's most recent round of grants. The YWCA, which closed in 2005 and reopened after a year-long fundraising campaign, has shifted its focus in recent years from women's fitness programs to those that help disadvantaged women. WRHF Supports Programs to Advance
Youth Rehabilitation, Infant Health
 A $100,000 grant from the Western Reserve Health Foundation will help the Mahoning County Juvenile Court launch a new program to identify and recommend treatment for drug and mental health issues in the families of young offenders. Meanwhile, a grant of $70,900 will support the county Board of Health's new "Centering Pregnancy" program, which will help at-risk pregnant women choose health-promoting behaviors and teach those to their infants. Health Foundations Announce
Grant Proposal Deadlines
The Western Reserve Health Foundation and the Trumbull Memorial Health Foundation are welcoming grant proposals for innovative programs that serve health needs in Mahoning and Trumbull counties. The foundations have set deadlines of Friday, Feb. 27, for initial letters of inquiry. The required forms and more information about funding priorities are available at these links on the Community Foundation website (WRHF, TMHF). Those invited to submit full proposals will be notified by early April.

Trumbull Hospice Trust
Welcomes Grant Applications
The Hospice Trust of Trumbull County plans to announce its second round of grants later this year and is welcoming proposals. The Hospice Trust, with $2.2 million in assets, was originally established to support the work of the Visiting Nurses Association of Trumbull County. When the VNA ceased operations in 2012, the trust was converted to a fund at the Community Foundation to support hospice services in Trumbull County. Application date is April 1. Read more.
