Ted Daniel began his recording career playing on Sonny Sharrock's first album ?Black Woman?. His second recording was with a band he co-lead (Brute Force) with his brother, Richard Daniel. The recording was entitled ?Brute Force? on the Embryo label, produced by Herbie Mann. Since then, Mr. Daniel has participated in over thirty published recordings with such great artist such as Archie Shepp, Dewey Redman, Andrew Cyrille, Sam Rivers, Billy Bang and Henry Threadgill.

Princeton University Professor and 2014 Fields Medalist Manjul Bhargava looks at some of these ancient, poetic problems ? and their remarkable solutions through the ages ? to reveal much about the nature of human thought and the origins of mathematics. Dick Byrne, a Research Professor in the School of Psychology at St Andrews University, Scotland, whose work focuses on the evolution of cognitive and social behavior, particularly the origins of distinctively human characteristics, will review recent studies of gesture in chimpanzees, gorillas, bonobos and orangutans, both in captivity and under natural conditions in the field, and explain some of what they have found. Born in Brooklyn in humble circumstances, Rand (1914-1996) launched his career in the 1930s with magazine cover design and, starting in the early 1940s, he worked as an art director on Madison Avenue, where he helped revolutionize the advertising profession. He later served as design consultant to leading corporations like IBM, ABC, UPS, and Steve Jobs's NeXT, for whom he conceived comprehensive visual communications systems, ranging from packaging to building signage, all grounded in recognizable logos, many of which are still in use today. Rand?s influence was extended by students he taught at Yale University. His visually stimulating, yet problem-solving, approach to graphic design attracted devoted admirers during his own lifetime and he remains influential today.
