This Week in Connections....
Telematics in its Simplest Form - What it Means
See this link that explains, in simple terms, what telematics is and how it will impact the independent auto care industry. Developed by CAWA and the Auto Care Association (and sponsored by Vantage Marketing Global, Inc.) this whiteboard is meant to educate the industry, legislators, regulators and their staffs, other government officials, as well as, the general public as telematics becomes the premier issue of the industry and motoring public.  CAWA encourages you to share this link with your colleagues and customers. Also see the whitepaper (here) that CAWA endorses and the website that gives more information on telematics (www.aftermarkettelematics.org). For questions, contact our President & CEO, Rodney Pierini at [email protected] or 800.332.2292, ext. 1.
Copper Brake Pad Compliance - Are You Aware of Your Responsibilities?
For details on the responsibilities of manufacturers, distributors and retailers see www.copperfreebrakes.org. This website is also linked to CAWA's website, www.cawa.org. For questions, see our California based Legislative Advocate, Gary Conover, at [email protected] or 916.233.9655.

Also, it was announced last month that the national aftermarket associations (Auto Care and AASA), the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers and the Global Automakers signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Environmental Protection Agency to reduce the content of copper in brake pads. The MOU mirrors similar laws that have been enacted in the states of California and Washington.
Letter to President Regarding the West Coast Port Situation
CAWA and several of its members and friends signed the enclosed letter (here) to the President and the congressional delegations in California, Nevada and Arizona thanking the President for his involvement in a potential solution by sending Secretary of Labor Tom Perez to encourage a negotiated settlement so the west coast port operations could get back to normal. We thank all members that gave us permission to include their company's name as a signatory to the letter. We understand, that over the weekend, the parties have come to an agreement that now requires ratification by both sides. For more information, please contact our President & CEO, Rodney Pierini at [email protected] or 800.332.2292, ext. 1.
Auto Care Association's New Career Website
The Auto Care Association has launched a new auto care careers website, www.autocarecareers.org, to educate young people about, and attract them to, careers in the auto care industry. The website has resources and information highlighting the variety of professional positions, fast growth potential and dynamic career paths available in the auto care industry. We encourage CAWA members to link to the new site, and use it as a valuable resource in all of their recruitment efforts. For more information, contact the Auto Care Association education department at 301-654-6664.
Auto Care Advocacy Network Formed
CAWA was instrumental in launching this Network which was developed to create a more comprehensive and systemized auto care industry response to legislative and regulatory initiatives in Washington, D.C. and in the states. The Auto Care Association, the Alliance of State Automotive Aftermarket Associations (ASAAA), of which CAWA is a member, and the Alliance of Automotive Service Providers (AASP) announced the formation of the Auto Care Advocacy Network (here). For more information on the Network, contact our President & CEO, Rodney Pierini at [email protected] or 800.332.2292, ext. 1.
CARB - Reporting the Sale of Automotive Refrigerant - Your Responsibility to Report by March 1, 2015
It is that time of the year. CARB has asked CAWA to give notice to its members who are required to report annual sales of automotive refrigerant products sold in small containers (typically 10 to 22 ounces).  The report would be for the calendar year 2014.  The report forms including instructions are available at the CARB webpage for this regulation. The due date for the report is March 1, 2015. Should you have any questions, see our Director of Government Affairs, Jennifer Zins, at [email protected] or 916.871.0603.
