Providing nutritious meals in a family style setting is an important part of any quality child care program. Family style meals offer children the opportunity to socialize with others, learn to serve themselves and try new foods.

 

Here are some things to consider when serving meals and snacks:

• Have children and adults wash hands before and after every snack and meal.
• Let children take part in serving the food by offering child-sized place settings and serving utensils.
• Talk to parents about allergies or special diets their children may have.
• Sit with children to model and support social interactions.
