The Dating and Relationship Group:  Do Men Actually Love Bitches?
When it was originally published, Sherry Argov's book "Why Men Love Bitches: From Doormat to Dreamgirl - A Woman's Guide to Holding Her Own in a Relationship" created a great deal of controversy.  In many ways, the controversy raised by this book seems to have persisted; not a week goes by in my psychotherapy practice when at least several female patients, confronted with ongoing relationship dilemmas and concerns about being "too nice," ask me directly why "bitchy" women seem to get (and keep) their guys.  Perhaps Argov's book has penetrated the female psyche more so than ever could have been predicted.  In the next meeting of the Dating and Relationship Group on Saturday, August 15, 2015 (12:00 PM to 1:15 PM), I will attempt to deconstruct the "Should I just be a bitch?" question and describe the psychological dynamics Argov's book erroneously attempts to cultivate.  Exercises and discussion will focus on the appropriate balance of self-esteem and boundaries in romantic relationships, what attitudes and behaviors signal maturity and inner strength, and how what is typically thought to be "attractive" is actually a psychological - not a physical - quality. The Men's Group: Men and Shame
In the next meeting of the Men's Group on Saturday, August 15, 2015 (10:45 AM to 12:00 PM), we will continue our exploration of shame.  A compelling podcast featuring experts on the work of Brene Brown, a prolific writer on the experience of shame, will be featured.  Following the podcast, there will be ample time for discussion. Vulnerability, pivotal experiences in early development, and how women contribute to men's shame will be major topics considered.  To register to attend this group on Saturday, August 15, 2015, please see the directions below.
