The American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress in Washington DC together with the Embassies of Croatia and Spain are sponsoring a special screening of

Flory's Flame is a one-hour documentary weaving the life story of Flory Jagoda with her 2013 Celebration Concert at the Library of Congress.

A National Heritage Fellow - the highest honor given by the US to traditional artists - Flory was born in Sarajevo to a musical family whose roots stretched back to Spain for hundreds of years prior to the Jewish expulsion during the Inquisition in 1492.  Living in small Jewish communities in Bosnia and Croatia over the ensuing centuries, the songs and lyrics of Flory's culture were lovingly passed down relatively intact, ultimately reaching Flory, one of the few members of her family who survived the Holocaust. Flory has spent her career composing, recording and performing this music worldwide, which culminated in the sold-out Celebration Concert. In the documentary, Flory details episodes from her challenging but ultimately triumphant life path and her mission to ensure continuity of her family's cultural legacy through her music, which is featured throughout.

JEMGLO is currently speaking with many additional festivals and other event organizers around the world about scheduling screenings for Flory's Flame. Everyday our inbox receives requests for screeners as word of mouth spreads from folks who have had a chance to see it already in Jerusalem, Seattle, Sarajevo, and Belgrade. We are overjoyed with this reaction and the opportunity to play a role in fulfilling Flory's dream of continuing through music the Judeo-Spanish heritage of her family.

(Oh! -- a little sidebar -- Did you hear about our interview with Spanish Radio Sefarad about Flory's Flame? Check it out here!)

JEMGLO will send out e-blasts as new events are calendared to ensure that interested viewers in different locations have a chance to see Flory's Flame.
