CACFP Meal Pattern Webinar:

What Californians Need to Know to Comment

On January 9, the U.S. Department of Agriculture released a proposed rule with new science-based nutrition standards for meals provided through the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). These proposed improvements impact all CACFP meals, including those served in child care centers, family child care homes, and the at-risk afterschool supper program. This proposal is the first major update of the CACFP meal patterns since the program's inception in 1968.

CFPA is committed to helping bring a diverse and representative California voice to the public comments. In addition to the webinar, we will be interviewing and surveying stakeholders, developing advocacy materials, and sharing sample comments. We'll share these materials as they are available.

New Managing Advocate in Los Angeles

CFPA is pleased to announce that Jared Call has joined the CFPA team as a Managing Advocate in our Los Angeles office. Jared came highly recommended from several partners in Los Angeles who had the pleasure working with him in his role of Director of Programs and Operations at See-LA. While at See-LA, he managed farmers' market-based programs including nutrition education classes for CalFresh-eligible families and the expansion of the Market Match healthy incentive program through a unique partnership with First 5 LA. Jared's advocacy work at CFPA comprises CalFresh and the School Breakfast Program, with a focus on developing and implementing policies aimed at improving access, participation, and nutritional quality in the federal nutrition programs.

Jared came on board with us in January and is looking forward to working with CFPA's many partners and stakeholders to achieve our shared vision of improving the health and well being of low income Californians by increasing their access to nutritious, affordable food. Jared will also be assuming the role of communications coordinator for CFPA beginning next week so please add jared@cfpa.net to your address book to continue to receive important updates and alerts.

Jared can be reached at 213.482.8200 ext. 201 or at jared@cfpa.net.
