Summit Artspace to have strengthened  role in area arts & culture

On April 15, the membership of the Akron Area Arts Alliance voted to adopt a resolution from the AAAA Executive Board that will focus the Alliance's future direction on the operation of Summit Artspace. The findings of an organizational assessment completed in February 2015 by The Osgood Group indicated that the Alliance's strengths and the needs of the community intersect with the development of Summit Artspace as a community center for the arts.

The Executive Board's resolution to the membership also provided for retiring the existing membership model and convening a group of community leaders to develop a plan for the sustainable operation of Summit Artspace. Details about future use of Summit Artspace will be determined during the process of developing the business plan. Although specifics are yet to be determined, it is likely that the focus will continue to be on providing local artists and arts organizations with a venue to create, perform, exhibit, sell and convene. Education is also likely to be a focus of Summit Artspace with programs for both artists and community members with an interest in the arts.

The AAAA Executive Board will launch a search for a new executive director in late April with a July 1 target for hiring.  Questions about the organizational assessment, t he resolution or the search process should be directed to Toby Ann Weber, Interim Executive Director, at [email protected] or to Barbara Feld, Chair, AAAA Executive Board, at [email protected] .
