A Prayer for Ash WednesdayGracious God, today begins a period of inner reflection and examination. The days stretch before me and invite me inward to that silent, holy space that holds your Spirit. This special time beckons me to see my life through Christ's eyes and the truth and reality of your love incarnate. Give me the grace to enter the space of these days with anticipation of our meeting. And, when I open my soul to your presence, let your loving kindness flow over me and seep into the pockets of my heart. I ask this for the sake of your love. Volunteer Opportunities One of our largest fundraisers of the year is coming soon! We will need volunteers for our Pasta Dinner and Silent Auction event on April 18th. The volunteer sign up sheet is provided in a link under the Pasta Dinner section of this newsletter listed below. Special Persons Day is another opportunity to earn parent service hours. That event will take place on May 1st. Please save the date on your calendars. More information will be available soon.
Candy Sale
Our candy sale officially ended on Tuesday. If you have outstanding money, please send in all candy payments no later than Friday. If you would like to sell any additional boxes, please pick them up at the school office and turn in all money by Friday, February 20th.
Safety
Please remember to be mindful and always follow safety laws. Please use the crosswalks at all times, and do not double park to pick up or drop off your children for any reason. Help us keep every child at St. Leander safe.

The classroom before . . .
The classroom so far!
 We expanded the size of the classroom by demolishing the closet and plan to replace that space with cabinets for storage and sinks. We have installed new flooring with electrical outlets, plumbing fixtures, whiteboard, a new bulletin board and a fresh coat of paint. We also upgraded our handrails to comply with accessibility requirements. We still need to complete the second phase of our project to purchase and install the cabinets and sinks along the back wall and purchase appropriate classroom furniture and supplies. Please Help Us! Pledge donations for one or two years are still an option
to help us reach our goal of completing our classroom! Please consider making a one-time donation or a pledge which can be paid by monthly check or charged to your credit card. Help us bring St. Leander School's Science Classroom into the future. |

Congratulations to the 8th Grade Boys Basketball Team. They ended the regular season in First Place, They placed second in playoffs, and are headed to the Tournament of Champions at the end of February. Go Gaels!!
Congratulations to the St. Leander 6th Grade National Boys Basketball Team for winning the Southern Alameda County Championship this past weekend. In a hard fought contest against Transfiguration, the Gaels trailed for three quarters. With two minutes left, the Gaels took the lead and won 27-23. The boys are moving on to the Tournament of Champions and will face the winners of the other Oakland Diocese leagues. Great Job Boys.  |

Construction Update from Dave Nielsen, Vice President/Operations Manager

Cannon Constructors is building a 115 unit affordable apartments and 409 subsurface parking spaces. Work started 12/7/15 and will be completed by December 2015. We will provide weekly updates of our construction activities through e-mail. Here is our 1st update:
1. An existing 6" sewer line will be replaced with an 8" sewer line from San Leandro Blvd to SE corner of Carpentier and W Joaquin Ave. Work started at San Leandro Blvd on 1/30/15 and will be completed at Carpentier by 2/6/15. The east sidewalk at Carpentier will be closed Thursday and Friday this week.
2. On site fabrication of shoring beams will occur this week with some welding and cutting of steel being performed.
3.
Starting 2/10/15 shoring soldier beams will be installed with vibratory equipment to drive the 30 long piles into the ground. This work will be completed by 2/16/15. The equipment will create noticeable vibrations within 100 feet to of the equipment. Beyond 100' the vibrations should not be noticeable.
Mrs. Mullen's note: As we receive these updates, we will post them to our newsletter to keep you updated as to the progress and the details of the work. It looks like we can expect some noise in the next few weeks, but we will monitor its effect on our students and our program.

Pasta Dinner and Silent Auction

The 5th Annual Pasta Dinner and Silent Auction is just 2 months away! The event will be on Saturday, April 18th. Money raised at this event will be fully dedicated towards improving our students' educational experience, including helping to fund the new Science Classroom and contributing to the Tuition Assistance Fund. It's a fun family event that benefits all of our children!
